I know what you mean. Mainstream comics have a bad habit of bringing a character back giving them a good treatment and then not having any good stories to tell. It is very agravating! Mad
You think that they would have to have at least an outline of where they want the character to go.

I love the concept of Taskmaster since he 1st appeared in Avengers. They need to do something cool with him. Does he still train "henchmen" how to fight? *lame*

I just gave all my Marvel Venom realted comics to my nephew. This includes Am Spiderman 300 and the 35th aniversity issue. I really have no ideal the worth of these. They are probably in good to mint condidition.
Am I a cool uncle or a stupid man? Razz

You're a very cool Uncle. You remind me of an uncle I had, who could just talk comics for hours and stuff. Very Cool!

As far as the Taskmaster, he's just being introduced into the Moon Knight story. It's worth reading and buying for sure. I think he's been hired, but he looks like he's operating solo for now.

Are you talking about when Taskmaster trained USAgent how to use Captain America's shield?

Taskmaster actually had an entire school dedicated to him being lame. All he did was train evil henchmen and villains and such how to fight.

Picked up 3 comics and subsequently found out that the comic shop by my house is moving away from my house Frown There's other comic shops close by, but I don't like any of them as much (WHAH!)

Daredevil -- Foggy Nelson's secret life in the witness protection program. Good but not great.

New Avengers -- Spider-Woman one shot. Basically Spider-Woman's in her underwear being all retrospective. Then she's in her underwear trying to escape from capekillers. Then she gets kidnapped by Hydra. I don't remember if she was in her underwear at that point. Least favorite of these one shots.

The Eternals -- Iron Man's in this one and he kicks ass! And has his morals questioned. Cool. But weird to see Iron Man in a Neil Gaiman comic. The thing that's pissing me off about this one is that there's only 3 more issues. It should be WAY longer! Smile

Oh yeah. I forgot to say I bought Wetworks 1. Really, the only thing I remember about Wetworks when it first came out was that it was about a year over the deadline when it first came out. But when I saw Mike Carey had written this new one, I was interested (I'm really excited for Grant Morrison and Jim Lee's Wildcat's run -- that comic I loved).

Wetworks is okay -- a lot of time is spent setting stuff up in the first issue and I might buy the second. But as you can see, I forgot I even bought it.

okay now i can say it
i've stopped
no more
well, maybe the odd mart and pick up a run
but no monthly trek to get some good stuff and too much bad and the odd missing issue to spoil an arc.

Okay, yesterday I boughted: Ocean (Warren Ellis), Desolation Jones (likewise Warren Ellis), Invincible vol. 7 (Robert Kirkman) and Ares: God of War (Mike Oeming).

So far I've only read Ares, but it was pretty rad.

I wanted to pick up 'Ocean'. Let me know if you liked it.
I read Desolation Jones. I won't say anything about though, if you have not read it yet.

Desolation... fucked up. But in a good way.

Ocean is just straight up sci-fi awesomeness. It's really just waiting to be turned into a movie. It's somewhere between Abyss, Alien and Stephen Baxter's Manifold: Time.

Currently enjoying Walking Dead, Justice League, Robin, Detective, Green Lantern could be better as with Batman. 52 depends on the week. Fear Agent is a pleasant surprise and will be buying Through the Looking Glass Hatter M next week.

The company that almost killed comics is back (kinda), and this time they have artists *and* writers.

Of course, I'm talking about Image (now part of DC, I think). I picked up three ex-Image titles this week:

Deathblow 1 -- Brian Azzarello wrote it, can't remember the artist's name but he's good. I haven't read anything by Azzarello before (heard lots of good things about him), and this was a good first issue. I'll probably pick up the next one.

Wetworks 2 -- Mike Carey and Whilce Portacio. How can you screw up a story with sexy vampires, werewolf detectives, necromancers, and symbiotic-wearing speacial forces military? I don't know but unfortunately Mike Carey has messed it up. Bummer. I really like his Hellblazer run. Not sure what happened here. Won't buy issue 3.

Wildcats 1 -- Grant Morrison and Jim Lee. I've been waiting for this one and it was worth it. But already I'm feeling like I do watching Lost in sydication. You've sold me hook, line, and sinker. Just give me the damn TPB already.

and the latest:

New Avengers -- featuring the Sentry, best Sentry story NA has featured yet. (I realize that's not saying much, but it's really pretty good -- not great, but good).

Daredevil -- More, please.

This is coming to my comic shop this weekend:
quote:
DR. PETER COOGAN SIGNING
Saturday November 4 2 PM

Peter Coogan comes to Star Clipper to sign copies of his book, SUPERHERO: SECRET ORIGIN OF A GENRE on Saturday, November 4! His new book of powerful but accessible comics criticism is already drawing strong comparisons to the works of comics champion Scott McCloud. SECRET ORIGIN is "An entertaining and exhaustive history, tracing the superhero's roots in mythology, science fiction, and pulps, which follows the genre's development to its current renaissance in film, literature, and graphic novels."

Peter Coogan earned his Ph.D in American Studies at Michigan State University, writing his dissertation on "The Emergence of the Superhero Genre in America from Daniel Boone to Batman." In addition to serving as the writing specialist for the Kinkel Center for Academic Resources at Fontbonne University, St. Louis, Missouri, Coogan is co- founder and co-chair of the Comics Arts Conference, held annually at the San Diego Comic-Con International. Don't miss this rare opportunity to talk to a true comics scholar and fan!

If anyone is in the mood for some unusual manga then I can recommend Kurosagi Corpse Collection Agency. Story is about a group of students at buddhist university who use their psychic talents to aid the souls of the recently deceased, nicely portrayed in a 'unlikely group of oddballs' format.

Some very nice stories in the first tpb my fave was about an insurance salesman who has perfected a system for predicting death. It's unmistakably japanese ie occaisional graphicness that seems, to my delicate sensibilities, to be a bit gratuitous, although it's by no means a horror comic by manga standards.
