Frown to joss wheadon, for being a fab. writer but being unable to meet a monthly deadling. and what is happening to Peter Davids books! grrrrr.

for not having a pickup since the middle of december I have the grand total of:

Fables (still fab.)
Amazinging x-men #7 (a good read but should be onto 9 by now)
and tales of tellos #3 (not read yet as I've managed to misplace number 2 but I'm sure I'll enjoy, the art looks good Smile)
and I think my comic shop forgot to give me the lastest BPRD but since the afore mentioned mis-placing I can't be sure - numpty that I am!

I went to the comic book store today. I did not buy anything new. I did buy Wizard's Twisted Toyfare Theatre volumes 1, 2 and 4. I love these things they make me laugh out loud.
I also got a Dreadstar collection "The Price". So it was not a bad trip.

still not getting as much as i would like....still liking what I get.

I don't know what number I'm up to, and there are no real changes to my coments about the ones I've read but...

Fables...loving Snow's children.
Amazing X-Men...it would be better if it was montly!
Fallen Angel......NO....don't cancel it.... Frown

erm, got the recent Tellos mini-series, which was quite readable..and nice art.

think I've fallen behind on BRDP, and although I enjoy them I don't care enough to find out and chase up!

and that's about it!

should really pic up one or two more and give them a try.

I was the samurai bunny one - does anyone know if I'm too late to jump into that one?

I picked up Ultimate Iron Man #1 on Saturday, because I was attracted to the shiny cover.

After reading it, I must say that it looks to be an interesting story. Orson Scott Card is writing it and now I want to read Ender's Game.

*blink* really? I had no idea he was a comic guy too.

My reading has been a mix of falling by the wayside and catching up on things I bought ages ago, hence my lack of posting here. Read two Maakies collections, which were grosser than I remember the first one being, and fairly purposefully unPC (as in, un PC for the sake of being un PC). Read Happy Endings (Dark HOrse anthology), which was decent enough. Read Little Annie Fanny which was funnier and deeper than I expected. Buoght a long time ago the Screwtape Letters adaptation becuase it had a Neil intro. Just listened to it on book on tape, so don't feel the need to give the book a careful look through, which is good, because the art repulses me. So bad, so bad...

I didn't know he wrote comics either. I've never read his books, but it's hard to not see his name in the science fiction area of a book store. I guess in reading about the Ultimate Iron Man on the internet, this is Scott Card's first comic work.

Got Happy Endings on a whim, thought it was pretty good from what I remember of it. If you like small-format collections, have you ever checked out the Komic Werks books? I think I got vol.1 and it had a Pistolwhip story in it (much to my surprise) and the whole collection was fun and an interesting intro to some real indie stuff.

If you mean Yusagi Yojimbo, I have no idea where that's at in the story (meaning, I don't know if they're wrapping things up or if it's just going to keep going and going (get, bunny *ahem*)).

unfamiliar with that one
Let's see now. Still been mostly putting comics reading to the side. There's a Concrete miniseries that's on my pile that I'm itching to read. Just read through the Dark Horse Book Of Hauntings and The Dark HOrse Book Of Witchcraft (or was it just witches?), save for the text pieces which I haven't had time for yet. Good books, each with Mignola, Millionaire and Jill Thompson. Most of the pieces are quite good - very small percentage of crap - and they look nice as matching hardcovers as well

So, I got my 3 books.

3! I remember when I was struggling to keep it under 10!

Joss finally got round to writing the next Amazing X-men (you know...I keep blaming Joss but it could be the artist or anyone!) and after a 3 month wait....yes, it was as good as the others.

BPRD is there to read...now I need to see which ones I've got, if I have one missing like I suspect and get it, so I can catch up.

and finally Fables...I soo love this book, and the Neverwhere preview was as I'd hoped.

so, only 3 but 4 come June Smile

What is this Neverwhere comic of which you speak? And I really shoulda jumped on Fables from the beginning when I saw it, but I just really didn't want another ongoing at the time... I s'pose all y'all would say the trades are worth picking up?

Anyone else reading Books of Magic right now? What do you think?

Neverwhere is going to be a 9 part comic written (re-written) by mike carey of Lucifer fame, and drawn by glen fabry (of covers of preacher fame) - both of course spelt incorrectly!

it's due out in June and this months Fables - which is start of a new arc and a very good jumping on point - has a few pages of the first one.

yes, pic up the trades...but get this issue, and get backdated when you can.

and I never read the new BoM...even though it had both John and Zatanna in it, because I was a little dissapointed with the first and very unsure about it.

Things I didn't pick up:

Flaming Carrot - At 3.50, I can't make myself buy it. I'm not going to shell out 3.50 for a book that's A) two weeks late and B) thinner than the first ish, which was 2.75-2.95 area. I'm going to end up owning it, but not until I save up some cash.

Deadshot - Even though the story looks good, great even, DC has been tradehappy. and, like it was the case with the Life after Wartime TPB, it'll be cheaper than buying all the issues seperately.

Deadpool/Cable TPB - Again, I'll buy this when I have more money.

Young Avengers - I blatantly do not care.

What I ended up buying:

Books of Magic: Life after wartime - I like this story. Really Really. The fact that Hunter created a pocket dimension and is now dealing with the repurcussions in the "real one" is presented well. You can feel Neil's influence, but the new writer gives it a litle more of a twist. reccomended.

Billy the Kid's Old Timey Oddities - Pick this up. Seriously. Do it. If you like The Goon, do it out of straight up love for Eric Powell. If you like Jonah Hex, and can't wait for his new series, this will hold you over or make you completely forget about it. It's that decent.

Had a good week at the shop! A bunch of stuff I'm anxious to read! Besides the free comics (see WE thread!), the third volume of the Peanuts collections came in (!yay!), a new Ranma volume (yeah, so, by volume 30 something it IS rather repetitious, but I still enjoy it), and Concrete - which looks amazing. Also, (Mtxx, probably of interest to you) a book of Eisner and Miller interviewing each other, though I don't know when I'll get around to reading it.

So, got to the comic shop last weekend ...
Got The Walking Dead 15-18 (or 19?). Anyone else reading that? It's been pretty captivating, but it's definitely a character story, though when the action happens, it comes right at you. I was behind when my old comic shop closed and I was switching to a new one, but I think I have them all up to recent now.

Couriers vol. 3 GN If you haven't read any of hte Coruiers books, you should. It's definitely fun stuff (MR for language and minor violence, but good stuff).

I picked up #0-2 of Hunter Killers by Silvestri and crew. Seemed pretty good, might stick with it for a few, see if it really grabs me. It's something a bit different for me, so why not.

Got the latest two Books of Magic: Life During Wartime and am really liking it. This series took me a bit to get into, but I think it's paying off. Besides, I've gotten every BOM out, so really I didn't have a choice, did I? Smile

On Wednesday I was having a down day (don't recall why), but the comic shop cheered me up as it had artbooks by two cool people in! Michael Gagne and Jim Woodring! Woodring's work is wonderfully surreal and creepy
