ok, selfish post. I just finished Moore's Swamp Thing (quite liked it)...should I read any other Swamp Things? (I'm a completist, btw)

and if not, or afterwards, what graphic novel should I go on to next? I'm not really into the superhero-y stuff. But there's just so much to choose from, and I know so little about these things...just thought maybe I could get some guidance from you experts.

ps. I'm pretty willing to read anything, the only drawback is the price of comics/graphic novels. I'm asking to prevent bad investments.

Much of the post-Moore Swamp Thing is worth reading. I'd definitely suggest checking out Hellblazer as well. I'm guessing you've already read Sandman.

awesome, that's exactly what I wanted to know. (somehow I just KNEW Dweller would be the first to reply & give the best advice.)

I did read Sandman, my first Gaiman experience(excluding Neverwhere movies) and loved it, needless to say.

so, my plan right now is to read more Swamp Thing, then I'm going to Hellblazer. I feel better when I have a plan for these things.

Oh, I'm OBSESSED with Fables. it's scary. totally obsessed. so no more talk about it cause whenever I think about it I get really upset cause I have to wait foreeeeeeever for the next book to come out...and I've got a few of the comics upstairs, waiting for the next book, (volume 9) so that as soon as I'm finished with it, I can start reading the comics. because I honestly cannot wait this long, it's depressing.

ok quick distract myself with something else...anything else Fable-like out there?

its not fable like, but if you want a one - off read that doesn't require waiting for more to come out, you could try Midnight Nation by JMS.

You are an Accomptant. You keep track of the King's accounts, which is a fairly simplish job: his current holdings is always A LOT, and his expected revenue is always MORE. 'Sgood ta be da King. As long as there isn't a peasant uprising, you're likely to keep your head. Also, you're the only one in the office who knows how to use an abbacus. (Or multiply.) (Or add.)

I prefer to live in a country that's small, and old, and where no one would ever have the NERVE to wear a cape in public, whether they could leap tall buildings in a single bound or not.

Ooo! Abadazad! Honestly, I recommend those books to all people who like words and pictures in sequential order, but if you like Fables and Swamp Thing, you'll like it a lot.

Y the Last Man. Soooo good. I'm a big fan of Brian K. Vaughan, though. I also enjoy his Ex Machina, which is kind of like the West Wing meets Heroes. Kind of.

Ghost in the Shell by Masamune Shirow is pretty cool.

If you like cheese, find the first three of five issues of Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness. It's hilarious. Ash is getting some from Dazzler, and when I say getting some, I mean he isn't getting anything.

If you want to get mini-histories of the Marvel Universe, Illuminati is starting to do a good job of that. SO good that I picked up the Infinity Gauntlet graphic novel today (it's an 80's story; Wolverine's in his orange and black costume) to learn why the rest of the Illuminati think Reed Richards is an idiot.

Not really. After Alan Moore the series goes downhill. The new stuff isn't bad, but it's like comparing Neil's Sandman to other Dreaming stories.

I swear, every modern DC comic is related to Swamp Thing #50 somehow.

I would second that and raise you a Domu. I think both were from Darkhorse. I liked Midnight Nation, but stay away from Rising Stars. It might be fine as a collection, I don't know, but my perception of it is tainted by having to wait FOREVER to get the full story.

Y the Last Man and Transmetropolitan are the next two on my TPB to-read list.

If you want non-super hero stuff, I really enjoyed the first 4 vols of 100 Bullets, and several books by Brian Wood (Couscous Express, The Couriers, Channel Zero, and his current one is DMZ). I would recommend any of those in a heartbeat as non-magic/non-super hero.

If you liked Swamp Thing, I would recommend any Alan Moore. Miracle Man is my favorite, but it's hard to get. Watchmen and LXG is a good read and easy to find in tpb.

Sandman Mystery Theatre is a good one. It's very detective noir, set in the 1930's. You get mystery, murder, suspense, and a little bit of romance. Wesley Dodds was cool.

Steven T Seagle and Matt Wagner made a pretty good team.

Preacher was good for awhile too.

ok:

1st, it's funny that a lot of the suggestions are for TPB I've looked at and thought "hmmm, I wonder if I'd like that?" so that's AWESOME. (you guys are so damn helpful, seriously)

2nd, I've never gotten into manga...I might just be prejudiced, but it's never interested me. so I don't know when I'll give anything manga-esque a chance, but I'm sure I will one day. it's just at the end of my list.

3rd, I've read a bit of Moore...LXG, V4V, ST, and other stuff I can't remember now. I want to read Watchmen but for some reason I haven't yet. I do quite like him.

4th, I've read Preacher, and mostly loved it. wish there was less cheesy romance, but otherwise awesome. & of course I've read Sandman Mystery Theatre Razz I'm a completist, remember?

I think that covered all bases.

If you read the Sandman you might enjoy the whole Lucifer series and recognize some of the characters. It's not bad for a spin-off.

I'm also into the Fables series myself, just finished number 8 which I think is the latest TP.
