I read in a magazine (one I did not buy, so I cannot quote nor refresh my memory) that Spaced will not be coming to the US due to the cost of clearing the rights to the extensive rock soundtrack. If your computer plays dvds, you can probably find a hack to let you watch the brit discs (someone else will have to help you there)

Heheh - it's much easier in Europe, they sell region free players just about everywhere over here - there's a much bigger market for them because people want to watch Hollywood movies before they're released on Region 2 DVD....

Hey, I should get the Spaced DVD too - I have never seen the series, but I'm sure it's good.

And if you want to search for a solution for PLaystation 2, you should search for "Playstation 2" + "region hack" in Google... But a lot of the results will be aimed at Europeans wanting to play region 1 discs....

Yes, but judging from this and other threads, Silly Punk isn't going to have the money for a new DVD player, so availability of region free players is moot

Well, around here you can buy no-name region free players in discount supermarkets for the price of 2 cd's, so everyone can basically afford them... Of course players that cheap don't ALWAYS work that well, but I know people who've been very lucky... (I've got money, so I own a quality Pioneer player.)

Makes sense, Australia/South America's region 4 is notorious for having the least interesting releases of any region... Region 2 is pretty cool thanks to the British market.... and region 3 is cool because of the HOng Kong/Korean market...

It sucks that they have to limit DVDs to regions. Evil.

"The other night I dreamed that King George VI was dead, and that Helen Hardinge had somehow or other got herself proclaimed Queen of England, and that I was detailed to go and tell her that it wouldn't do at all; and when I did this, all she said was, 'You see, I am really Queen Mary,' and I said, 'Oh very well' - words to that effect, and woke up.

Last night I dreamed that Eisenhower came to stay with us, and he insisted on being put to sleep in the dog kennel, with a collar and chain about his neck."

yeah region free dvd players are ridiculosly cheap here, my mum bought a dvd player for xmas, i'm evil i took that one, a region 4 one, back to the store, reason for return: my mother is a techno-idiot, i'm such a delightful daughter. Point is i got a multiregion one for her cheaper (about $50US or 20 pounds anyway stupidly cheap).

And even dvd's from the video shop are conflicting regions, let alone if you want to watch manga or dodgy dvd's bought in thailand.

And i have friends in high places, spaced is brilliant, and gives shaun of the dead a number of in jokes, classy.

if it helps i remember seeing a region hackable dvd player for around $50 dollars in radioshack when on holiday last summer. you have to change regions manually but they seem to work fine. made by cyberhome. dont know if they are still available though.

Hey Silly Punk...

As a Canadian in England I have the region 2 dvds and it is a great show!!!

Anyway, the Phillips DVP642 (I think that's the right name) can play anything and can be hacked easily.
They retail for about $80-90 Cdn. (I know you don't have money now but thought this info might be useful)
I plan on getting one when I come back to Canada (September!!! Yay tim Hortons! Kraft Dinner!)
