So I just finished the first arc of "Powers,"
which everyone told me is a fantastic comic. However, I wasn't too happy with it. Maybe it's because I feel like Bendis' current run on Daredevil is one of the best I've ever read for a superhero comic (then again, since Kevin Smith revamped DD, I can't think of too many arcs in that series I haven't liked).
But "Powers." I dug the concept, I was alright with the main characters and their stories, but the way the plot unfolded, specifically the way the story ended pissed me off. Does it get any better after this or should I just quit now?

It gets better.
Really, it does.

I'd reccomend trying some fo the later stuff to get a feel for it, such as "Legends", "Supergroup" and "Sellouts"

However, Bendis, while writing this story and usually in general, tries to make comics bang and bark as much as possible. Powers is his version of a sort of NYPD blue, but with more things there to distract.

It is an in-depth visualization of how our society, mirrored and viewed through the lens of objectivity, deals with heroism, fame and the loss of recognition. some people can handle it, and others can't.

Thanks for the recommendations, 22down. I'll give one of them another shot. I get what you're saying about the themes in Powers, etc. I guess what really just pissed me off is I'm reading this mystery/detective story and the first time we meet the killer is when they arrest him. It just felt like it came out of left field all of a sudden. On the other hand, Walker's characterization seemed interesting and made the series seem like there was potential; I was just afraid of feeling ripped off again. Good to have recommendations. Gracias.

I read the first story arc awhile back, and thought it was pretty cool. I've been meaning to keep up with it ever since, but most of the bookstores I've been to don't usually have Powers in stock, or have one that seems to be taking place much further along the timeline.

I checked out "Roleplaying" this weekend, mainly because it was #2 in the series. It was about a bunch of college kids who dressed up as superheroes, running around campus pretending to do superhero-type things. Unfortunately, almost all of the gamers end up dead.

Cue music, call in the detectives.

This one worked a lot better for me, mainly because I didn't feel like the ending came out of left-field quite so much as I did in the first one.

*spoiler*
there was a nice bit when Deena tried to keep a suspect from teleporting away by grabbing his arm that left her staring dumbfounded at his arm.
