So, I am new to QC. I started reading from the beginning. I am now at about 800 or so. What gets me is that he has written Northampton, Mass. soooo perfectly. I spent way WAY too much time there in my crazy youth (and have even involved myself in too much of the local drama back then. Stuff happens.) I KNOW these people. He has captured them. I am enjoying this so much. Smile

Gah! I don't want to wait the whole weekend to see what happens!

"Cynicism masquerades as wisdom, but it is the farthest thing from it. Because cynics don't learn anything. Because cynicism is a self-imposed blindness, a rejection of the world because we are afraid it will hurt us or disappoint us. Cynics always say no. But saying 'yes' begins things. Saying 'yes' is how things grow. Saying 'yes' leads to knowledge."

I thought Dora was going to go mental at Sven in a 'ohmygodhowcouldyoutakeadvantageofmydamagedfriend?!' way, not Faye... she gone crazy!

Well, in fairness - I don't have any siblings, but if I did, I think I'd be pretty annoyed if one of my friends slept with them.

Why?

ETA: Also, it's refreshing for
a) Dora to be the bad guy for once
b) Dora and Marten to be yelling at each other for once instead of all the lovey doveying.

People are allowed to be irrational once in a while! And maybe she still thinks she did something vengeance worthy when she "stole" Marten and is overreacting for that reason.

It's just . . . rude.

(I do have a friend whose friend slept with his sister. And apologized to him later.)

(And I have another friend who, when surrounded by friends, specifically banned me and only me from even looking at his sister. <Well, the sister he likes. He said I could have any of the ones he doesn't like. And then he laughed to himself as he imagined that.> )

That is so weird. But I know lots of people think like that.
I don't get why your sister's or brother's love life should be your concern. It's not like someone's using your shaving razor or your bike or something.

I have a sister. But she's jail bait age, so that doesn't count.

But she's not jailbait for much longer, right? I need to update the Big Board.

4 years? It's definitely shorter than the other times on the Board.

I think Dora is under the impression that it isn't for "pure" reasons that Faye did it. She thinks Faye is not only fucking with her family out of spite but also doing it to hurt Martin. (Which upsets her as well.) It isn't rational. Also I think she is also worried about Faye and just not expressing it. I mean, she knows her brother's track record. I can't wait to see what she does to him.

I don't know if I would mind if friends wanted to date my sisters. They are in their twenties, they can date who they like. I do think it's a little odder because of the age difference as my sisters are 6 and 8 years my junior. But, to each their own.

dingdingding! that is the best explanation for Dora's reaction. if Dora feels guilty at all for snatching up Marten immediately the way she did (and we know she does), then she's going to assume that everyone else feels the same way—that she did something she shouldn't have and ought to be punished for it. and even Faye admitted that, were she inclined to vengeance, sleeping with Sven would've been a good way to wreak it.

i've basically read QC from start to finish in the last few days - it's addictive! and now i have to cope with only one a day?!

i think that for definite.

and on the whole friends sleeping with siblings thing i've never really understood the problem people have. my sister pulled my flatmate when she came to visit - he didn't speak to me for a week cos he thought i'd be mad! but it's her life, even if she is my baby sister.
