I'd like some help/suggestions please. I've read Beauty and Grass by Sheri S Tepper and I enjoyed them both. i was wondering if anyone else on the board is a fan, and if so what books by her should I read next?
Cheers! Smile
Louise

Oh, I second JaNell. You MUST read Gate To Women's Country. It's one of the bestest books in the world!

I've read most of everything that she has written. Gate To Women's Country and Beauty are my favorites.

Oh, and if anyone reads spanish or has a friend who does, I (for reasons I'm too embarassed to explain) have a copy of Beauty in Spanish that I can't read.

beauty was my introduction to sheri-s-tepper too. i think i've read everything except the last 2 books.

I did love her, i guess i still do, but i must admit her enviromentalism and feminism does start to drain.

its repeated too much, whilst not noticible at first, after reading most of her books it is.

However, that being said, like giabow gate to womens country is on my must read and re-read list.

i'd also highly recomend *checks bookshelf* 'gibbons decline and fall' and 'sideshow'.

I prefer to live in a country that's small, and old, and where no one would ever have the NERVE to wear a cape in public, whether they could leap tall buildings in a single bound or not.

when's spring due?.

I've read the companions, which was alright, better than bog standard fantasy, though yeah she is pretty anti a few things!!

Also i thought maybe she might have been the author of a series of sci-fi fantasy books i read as a teen about a world enhabited by unicorn like creatures that pulled wagons and a team of scientists researchers on a satalite that ended up settling on the planet due to issues on the satelite and temples that spread evil.

I haven't ever been able to trace who the author to that may be......oh wait now i have net *scuttles off*

I'm afraid that her books made me very, very unhappy ... Beauty and The Family Tree were the ones I read. I wanted to give her a second chance after Beauty, but ... twice bitten, that's enough. She is a skilled writer, but I found aspects of her outlook to be profoundly disturbing. I found myself flashing on images that her work had brought up in my mind weeks later and still feeling horrible.

You are a Confectioner. Who can take a sunrise and sprinkle it with dew? Actually, that's Bob The Enchanter, two doors down on the left. But you make delectable treats, which is no simple feat considering Oompa Loompas won't be invented for three centuries. Not only do you delight with your sweets, but you've paved the way for a new profession: dentistry!

Thanks for the suggestions! Smile I think I will see if I can get Gate to Women's Country.
Chomiji, I agree that some of her imagery is disturbing, but for me that added to the power of the book. The way she is able to evoke feelings with just words is amazing. Still, I usually alternate my books, so after reading something like Beauty, I 'd switch to Robert Rankin or Jane Austin, etc ( and then change back again after that).

Frown it is almost impossible to find a series when you don't know the title, main character names or the author, though i'm sure she is australian and her surname was between E and K (hah! i remembered which shelf i used to get the books from in the library, but i can't remember their title
