I'm new and it's the first time I propose a new topic, but since I've read worlds of praise for DD and Michael Bendis run on it I thought it wouldn’t be inappropriate to start a thread about David Mack, whose last issue of Dare Devil was a marvelous and unexpected surprise to me!! I think I’ve been waiting for new works of him with the same unsatisfied hunger I’ve waited Neil Gaiman’s re-appearance in the comic media!! I've been very lucky recently
I think everything Mack’s does it’s just mind-blowing and beautiful and I can’t wait to see how he’s going to develop the triangle between Matt, his new blind love interest Milla and Echo. I’m sorry guys, I’m a romantic girl and more than the ass-kicking I prefer the psycological evolution of the characters. Anyway I foresee a huge overdeal of troubles for Matt Murdock. Right when you think he has it all figure out and settle down with the king-ping new problems come hunting him back in the form of a former lover!! Where did I hear this plot before? But I have to say Echo is a very pleasant and nice coming back, I was talking about her just few weeks ago with a friend. I hope she won’t end-up dead or horribly hurt like all Matt’s love interests. She’s a very nice character and I think she deserve her one series, one day may-be!! I also wish nothing too bad will happened to Milla, but unfortunately I sense very bad things coming for her, I hope not, but I’m afraid one of them will turn out dead or horribly hurt, and Milla seems the one's gona fit this bill. Will see. If you don’t know who David Mack is and want to know more about him I suggest you to look into Kabuki, his first step into comic world, and one of my favorite comics after sandman. I also highly recommend his runs on Dare Devil, there’s a series ‘Parts of a hole’ in which he wrote and Quesada peciled and were Echo was introduced for the first time, and another 4 issue miniseries ‘Wake-up’ that was written by Bendis and penciled or better painted by Mack, it’s a very touching story were DD barely appears, but somehow his absence never bothered me. If you are interested they are both available in trade paper. Finally I’d like to point out that is the man behind Alias wonderful covers. I don’t know if you are familiar with this title it has nothing to share with the television series but I love it and I think it’s a great story and Mack’s art gives it a bonus that no other comic has!! A little bit like having Dave McKean making the cover of your own comic, if you know what I mean!! That’s it I’d love to know what you guys think about Mack and his work Ciao Serena |

I just read that today... my first thought was "why's Dave McKean illustrating a Delerium story in the covers of Daredevil?"... but man... this ish is awesome. I've been following DD at my local supermarket (no comic shop nearby), and i'm definatly picking this storyline up in trade. I'm not a huge student of Daredevil's history, but i'm betting this is the best its been since Miller.
the fact that Bendis is an awesome writer isn't hurting, either Excelsior! ~~~~~~~~~ Join the Church of the Risen Morrison! Hey this is great
You know this was my first post and I was so disapointed nobody ever bother answering me. And if by reading it you got interested in new Mack's work this is even better!! quote: Yeah I think Mack took a lot from McKean and probably Baron Storey too. Gaiman (at the NY is a book country talk) said that that thing of puting triangles all around the characters comes from Storey, and I thought this was a Mack brand quote: Now I'm not a real master of whatever have been published about DD but let me give you a better introduction on Dave Mack work on DD, just in case you want to look into it, I'm also linking the amazon sites were you can get more infos and may-be buy it at a better price then in a comic book store: In the beginning (I mean after Frank Miller era) there was this first story arc that Kevin Smith wrote and Joe Quesada illustrated. It's not that great and many people dismissed it considering not even DD, it's not that bad, but if I had to decide I would invest my money in the following. But David Mack did the covers and they are all very bueatifull!! Then the first thing that David Mack wrote for DD was 'Part of a hole', illustrated by Joe Quesada link here it's a glance at the cover you should read this (unless you've already done it). This is the book that introduced Echo in Matt Murdoch life and it would be important for you to learn about it, although the new story it's fully understandable even w/o reading it. After that in the story line there is a delicate wonderful story 'Wake-up' that Bendis wrote and David Mack illustrated, here's the link and here the cover Then there's the entire Bendis's story arch that you are familiar with. And now a days there is this new story arc that for the first time Mack is both writing and illustrating!! For what concern the Frank Miller's era I'm not that informed but I can give you some help: First of all his monthly run on DD is collected I believe in 2 volumes: 'Daredevil Visionaries Volume 1' link and 'Daredevil Visionaries Volume 2' link. Then there's 'Daredevil Visionaries Volume 3 Man without fear' link: which doesn't chronologically follow the first 2. Actually it's a revesitation of how Matt and Elektra first met. I guess when Miller created at first Elektra she was this cute nice rich greek college student that you can't really believe she'd become this fierce assassin and so he went back and rivisited the character and how she met Matt in order to make her more ... savage (this is the best word I can find for her) and credible. The 3 book are written and illustrated by Frank Miller. I don't have the first 2 volumes, I read some of the stories in it in italian, especially those about Elektra, they are good but not the best Miller has written on DD and Elektra and also it's graphic style it's not that great, I guess it was still growing as an artist. The 3rd volume it's good too, I personally haven't liked it that much, but the art it's Miller at it's full. The best work Miller has done on DD&Elektra it's probably collected in this big fat volume (also pretty expansive too it's an hard cover but really worth the money) 'Daredevil/Elektra: Love and War' (contains 2 totally different stories: 'DD-Love and war' and 'Elektra: Assassin') both the stories written by Frank Miller and illustrated by Bill Sienkiewicz, the same of 'Going inside Delirium' and actually the graphic style of this 2 stories it's exactly the same of Del story link. Look at the cover: Other 2 books I highly recommend are: 'Daredevil Legends: Born Again' writen by Frank Miller and illustrated by Brian Mazzucchelli link. This story arc I think was written more recently (I don't know when though) and describes the events that occur at the end of Matt Murdock relationship with Karen Page, an other of Matt love interests and you must know what that means. Honestly I don't know too much about this character, but the story it's very good and there's a huge revelation about Matt's family too. Last but definitely not least 'Elektra lives again' link written by Frank Miller and illustrated by Linn Varley, by the way she's his wife and she does a great job here!! I think this is the most recent DD story that Miller wrote, it' a wonderful hearthbreaking-tissuesoaking story, were Elektra is resuscitated once again to say her last goodbye!! quote: I don't know too much about anyoher work on DD so I can't really tell if Frank Miller and David Mack can be consider the best of DD, but they are definetly both really good and the one I enjoyed the most, toghether with Bendis off course. If someone knows of other artists or writer worth to mention please feel free to post it, for instance I always wondered were Karen Page comes from!! I really can't compare Miller and Mack because they are too different although they have many things in common. They both wrote DD story and they are both writer and artist and very good at it, which is not common!! If you like what you've seen Mack do you should also check out Kabuki. I was going to write more about it with all the liks but it would get too long, but if you ever feel like knowing more about it let me know, I'd be more then happy!! Also you should know that when this DD run will finish David Mack is going back to Kabuki with a brand new story arc (the 7th). I can't wait!!! If you like Bendis you should also check-out Alias there's 3 book that collect her story (all written by Bendis, illustrated by Gaydos, cover by Mack) and there's a 4th book coming here some links book 1, book 2, book 3 and book 4, which contains the present story arc. Whoa like alway I said too much but I hope it was helpfull. Thanks again SE [This message was edited by Se on September 28, 2003 at 06:00 PM.] [This message was edited by Se on September 28, 2003 at 06:08 PM.] [This message was edited by Se on September 28, 2003 at 06:10 PM.] |

I read Kabuki. Loved it... the art, at least. Should probably find my own copy, though i'll probably get the Daredevil thing first.

I thought the thread was titled 'Dark Mark is back, long live Dark Mark!' Oh well...
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God? |

wow this thread was sinking very low in the list so I thought I'd bump it after all is the first thread I started on the neilgaimanboard I can't let it die.
And there's a great reason too for all the Mack's fun new Kabuki's comic. After the long looooooong wait Kabuki the alchemi #1 is out!! *makes happy dance* and is drop-jaw gorgeous!! I HIGHLY recomend it. This new story arc can be read without knowing anything of previous Kabuki's stories so it's perfect for new fan's to jump on board. This is a link to a Newsarama article with a bit of preview This is the cover of #1 and #2 Don’t drink soap! Dilute! Dilute! OK! |

I picked up a copy of Alchemy #1 a couple of weeks ago. Oh. My. God. It's beautiful.
The best part about it is that my partner, who generally doesn't read comics (she likes Fade from the Blue and that's about it--until i get her started on Sandman, anyway) was blown away by it. I'm so happy about this series! |

Hi Circus wellcome to our little club
I'm glad you contributed to spread the Mackitude in the world. sharing bieloved books with beloved ones is one of my fav activity! *self-hijacking her own thread* An other autor I really enjoy reading (Daniel Pennac) once said 'we are inhabited by books and by friend'. it's one of my fav quotes. Well if they live in the same condo it's indispensable they know each other *ends self-hijacking her own thread* The new story arc it's great and it's great new people can read it without having to get the old stuff, but for people who knows how kabuki has started, it's amazing how the carachter has evolved, graficly and psicologically. Akemi is my fav carachter (I'm an origamist too) and my fav story is skin deep but looks like this one could beat it!! Don’t drink soap! Dilute! Dilute! OK! |
