Ingathering, the Complete People Stories by Zenna Henderson. So far, so good.

Giabow -

Those are old, old favorites of mine!

Zenna Henderson writes like an angel - which is kind of an appropriate simile, now that I think of it.

Let me know which story you like best, when you're done ... ?

You are a Confectioner. Who can take a sunrise and sprinkle it with dew? Actually, that's Bob The Enchanter, two doors down on the left. But you make delectable treats, which is no simple feat considering Oompa Loompas won't be invented for three centuries. Not only do you delight with your sweets, but you've paved the way for a new profession: dentistry!

Which one's your favorite, BeeZee? I'm partial to "Captivity" - Miss Carolle and the Francher Kid.

(Although I also have a tender place for "Gilead," which was the first one I read, in that excellent anthology Tomorrow's Children.)

Donna Tartt, The Secret History. Tad disappointing, but it would be hard for the book to live up to the hype. Dialing down the expectations.

I'm listening to Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway on disk, read by Phyllida Law, who seems to be the perfect reader for this. I haven't been this engrossed in a story for some time.

Finished The People stories. I don't remember the name of the one I liked the most. The only with Zelany (was that her name?) I think the rest would have been better had I read them in smaller doses.

I also just finishes A Paradigm of Earth by Candas Jane Dorsey. It was a good premise and some of it was very good. Some of it dragged a bit, though. I think I liked it.

Up next is Buy Jupiter and other stories by Isaac Asimov.

Could you mean Valancy? Valancy Carmody, the teacher who was the first young teacher that Cougar Canyon ever had?

I recently purchased The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. I plan on reading this sometime this weekend. I recently finished reading East of Eden by the same author.

Der. Yeah. I returned the book to the library before I had a chance to double check the names.

Right now, I'm rereading Tam Lin by Pamela Dean and I just started Timequake by Kurt Vonnegut. I've just discovered Vonnegut a couple of months ago. Why did nobody tell me he was this funny?

Virconium. So far, soooooooooooo good. Harrison sets up the epic feel of the story almost effortlessly.

The Ax- Donald E. Westlake. Great great suspense thing about a guy who'll kill for his perfect job... told from his POV and set around my old area.
So now I'm homesick.
And i read it while job hunting

Just got turned into a French? film

Richard Morgan's Market Forces, 2ndhand paperback. Corporate execs with guns and combat training, dueling for promotions in armored cars, investing in banana republics and revolutions. Could make a good movie out of this.

You liking it, Zoneseek? I think Morgan originally wrote MF as a screenplay. I heard him speak at the SD ComicCon last year and I think he said it had been optioned by a studio (or was at least being looked at). Altered Carbon was optioned at one point, too, but that option expired. Frown

Started as an antiglobalization rant, turned into a play, turned into a book. The speechifying can be a drag, but it could be fun if you played up the parody, like Judge Dredd.
