Oh yeah. Xykon is not just a Dark Lord. He's fucking bastard. And that did not stop him from making his point. ______________________________ Do not leave me with a bowl of anything for an extended period of time. |

*Pats on shoulder* Hey, take it from an experienced Sandman addict that some very wonderful things are coming. Even the eventual end of the story isn't a bad thing because, for me at least, it feels complete at that point. Although there still might be some lingering withdrawal symptoms afterwards... *nervous tic* but you'll be fine. Enjoy! James Wandering, but not lost. "You are a Knight Errant. All of the fun of rescuing damsels, and none of the paperwork." |

I'm currently working my way through a stack of Doctor Who novels. So far they're all suitably weird so no disappointment yet.

Finished Finn, horrifying and dispairingly depressing.
Just started Thunderland so far the writing style is putting me off. I tend to get annoyed when it takes more than a few sentances to talk about what action is taking place, making it seem like everything is happening in slow motion. Maybe it'll pick up. ---------------------------- Official Pineapple Master General of the Realm of Unproductivity and Procrastination He said 'It's all in your head,' and I said, 'So's everything' But he didn't get it.... |

I'm reading a great non-fiction book by Thomas Ostler called "Empires of the Word: A Language History of the World". It traces the history of some of the main languages of the world and the civilizations that spoke them. Right now it's about Sumerian, Akkadian and Aramaic.

I like your kind of boring, Maeve.
Thirith & I are reading Arthur & George together, i.e. we take it in turns reading to the other. It was a bit difficult to keep track of the story because at times we didn't have time to continue in it for several weeks & there are too many interconnected characters for long interruptions, but now we're nearing the end & I really like it. It's a bit hard to say what I would think if I read it like any other book, silently & on my own, though. __________________________ You are a Farrier. Hebrew is an interesting language.
I never got very far with it. I can read and write the letters but I only know the meanings of a few words. --------------------------- Is an INTJ personality type! finally finished Their Eyes Were Watching God. loved the second half of the book, was annoyed by the over-writing of the first half (lyrical descriptions of pollen will never do it for me). but good book over all.
up next: Henry James' The Turn of the Screw (and other stories). ~ We're just babies making up a game, if you're right. Ooh! I loved The Turn of the Screw. Very different from The Ambassadors (which I also liked), but very entertaining. (A friend read about 5 Henry Jameses for her exam though & she said after the 3rd novel she'd kind of seen it.)

Devlin is reading the Captain Underpants series. On the car ride yesterday he read the whole of #1. I have only three of those books though, so I guess we'll have to go to the library. He really liked it! I'm so proud!
I'm just waiting to see what I get today, and I'll prolly buy some new books later this week. I picked up The Fountainhead at the used bookstore the other day. I've been avoiding Ayn Rand for a while because I heard she has Strong Views. The Boyâ„¢ said she does, but they're Views I'm likely to agree with. So I figured I'd pick it up, since it was inexpensive.

I just bought and finished "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: The Black Dossier"
I LOVED it!! Moore is amazing!! There are so many things I need to look up and a lot I can't quite wrap my brain around yet but it was so much fun! Now back to "Thud" ------------------------------ my cup runs over but I am so blind I just complain as it spills around me |

Glad you liked that one! I must say I'm in two minds about Black Dossier - I love the sheer inventiveness and wit of it all, but at the same time I miss the story and strong character interaction of the first two League of Extraordinary Gentlemen books. Also, I think that Moore's insistence on tying everything up metafictionally takes away from the previous two volumes. It's different in Promethea, where metafictionality is the main theme to begin with, but I somewhat minded how []Black Dossier[/i] basically does the same thing again. It just seemed to me that Moore's theories and ideologies of fiction were much more foregrounded, and his storytelling suffered for it. |
