I'm trying to put off having to do actual work, and I wondered why this board didn't have a thread like this already. So I decided to start one. Anything interesting coming out that might be of interest to others? I have a list I'm constantly adding on to every time I hear about a new title I want. Funny how it always seems to be getting bigger, never smaller. Smile

New Philip Roth American Alternate History title

Anthony Kiedis autobiography out in October

A Dave Navarro photo thing done while he was still on drugs

New Tom Wolfe!!!

Of course, Tori Amos Piece by Piece. Now with a solid release date of 2/8/05 in the U.S.

Big Grin

I'm not in publishing, regrettably, but close. Better, actually, because I get to see all new books from most publishers out there. Unless someone else is in publishing proper?

Actually Amy, the work I'm putting off is descriptions for graphic novel/manga series for kids/teens. It's for our kids' buyer who's doing a presentation for the Middle Atlantic regional sales conference in October. It's a lot of just going to websites and cutting and pasting or copying out of catalogs. I've still got vacation hangover, though.

This one sounds interesting, for women who like Asian fiction.

"In a country where men dominate, this epic novel is first and foremost about
women. As the title implies, the female body serves as the book's most
important image and metaphor."

I'd elaborate more if I had the catalog page in front of me.

Read the manuscript for a new first novel, The Family Tree, by Megan Cadwalladr. I think it comes out over here and in the UK at the same time. She's British. It's about a woman dealing with her immediate past, and her family's past going back to her grandmother. I liked it. I told them they should change the cover, though.

Amazon listing

Huh. I'll have to check with VHPS (Faber is one of their imprints) on Monday. Either they just changed it, or for once Amazon is wrong. I hope Amazon's wrong. Either way it should be a good book.

That's interesting. Pubeasy lists the pub date as 9/05; but the availability date as 9/04. Someone's wrong here. I will have to dig deeper Monday.

No shit. Faber is famous for that, though. Hopefully Ingram didn't make a mistake, either, they get their info from the same places we do. We'll see.

HA!! Ingram is WRONG. Pub date for Redemption Song is 2005. Guess we'll have to wait. Heard it from the publisher themselves. Frown

That new Philip Roth book looks neat. I own I Married a Communist and haven't read it yet, but after seeing the movie version of A Human Stain I'm convinced I need to.

Yeah...Roth is a great writer. I first read Professor of Desire a few years ago, and have been making my way through his backlist ever since. I have yet to be disappointed.

Yes, I am resurrecting my own thread.

Just finished a book due out in May, called Snakes and Earrings, by Hitomi Kanehara.

This book has everything...a love triangle, S&M, a murder mystery, tattoos, and body modification, packed into 120 pages. I could easily see the Japanese director Miike making a movie based on this book. Very powerful, if a little gorey at times. Worth checking out. Keep this one in mind.

Destroyer, the next volume in C.J. Cherryh's "Foreigner" series, is due at the end of February

Conrad's Fate, Diana Wynne Jones' next young adult novel, is due in April (and Neil has already read it, the bum ...)

and

Gate of the Gods, the final volume of Martha Wells' "Fall of Ile-Rien" trilogy, isn't due 'til November, dammit!

You are a Confectioner. Who can take a sunrise and sprinkle it with dew? Actually, that's Bob The Enchanter, two doors down on the left. But you make delectable treats, which is no simple feat considering Oompa Loompas won't be invented for three centuries. Not only do you delight with your sweets, but you've paved the way for a new profession: dentistry!

And even though I mentioned it elsewhere, I'm mentioning it here.

My Friend Leonard, a sequel to A Million Little Pieces, both by James Frey, comes out in May, also. They're both great, great books.
