The original book "The Notebook" that the movie was based on. I couldn't finish it. Maybe it gets better at the end. I was wrapped up in the romance of the movie and feeding a burning crush on Ryan Gosling so I decided to read it. That was the one time in my life where the movie was better than the book. But maybe it was all about the ending or something and I never got that far.

Worst movie ever: There have been lots but the first one that popped into my head was Eyes Wide Shut. Hm. There are lots of movies I hate. Of course the second I try to remember any of them they all fly out of my brain giggling. Perhaps I should peruse former responses and see if any strike a chord.

Ooh! Ooh! Ooh! *bounces up and down in seat raising hand* I remember now!

The DaVinci Code, the movie. AWWWWWFUL! Never read the book because if the rest of the world was dumb enough to not pick up on the Jesus <3 Mary Magdalene thing on their own then why should I read the book that made them all jump on board the gravy train 2000 years later? But yeah, no the movie was AWWWWFUUUUUL! Saw it on a flight somewhere once and it was so awful I almost threw open the door and slid down the emergency slide into thin air. BAD. MOVIE.

Manos, Hands of Fate is the worst movie ever made, hands down. Anyone who says differently has never seen this movie and is not allowed to comment hereon. Anyone who HAS seen this movie agrees with me.

Listen, it was so bad that MST3K did a voice over of this movie and they admitted, in the middle of the movie, that it was so bad that even THEY couldn't make it funny.

the book's ace! you just gotta get tuned in to it. If you know a broad Scottish accent, it helps.

I don't have a problem with the Nac Mac Feegle, or the Geordie dog in Richard Adams's The Plague Dogs, but over-literal accent transcriptions are annoyingly obstructive.

i can't really comment on this, as i don't have enough time to read all the books, watch all the films i want to read/watch, so i certainly don't have time to go through crap ones so if i'm not enjoying something, i stop.

although the only time i ever walked out of the pictures was eddie murphy's harlem nights - and that was after about 10 minutes!

They do require an extra effort form the reader, true, but if you'd heard the way Leithers speak, there's just no other way of doing it. Really.

Bad movies are easier to pick than bad books because I tend to be pretty good at picking books I would like...but that doesn't work when a favorite author writes a stinker, usually because of my loyalty i still try to muddle through the book and regret it later on, it has the side effect of making me nervous about reading more from that author. This is unfortunate as anybody can have a bad run, but I really hate reading bad stuff, seeing I can have fun with, reading no.

Example of stinker I muddled through because I liked the author:

Cujo by S. King

Example of one I couldn't finish even though I liked the author:

Owlflight - M.lackey

Example of story I liked but I couldn't read again because it's unbearable:

The Thomas Covenant Unbeliever series - S.Donaldson

The MOVIE The Mist. I loved the story by Stephen King, but the movie was just . . . terrible. We left the theater.

I have a pretty good self protection mechanism when it comes to movies. I won't see too many comicbook based films because of it.

The crappiest book would have to be the "Scarlet Letter", that I had to read in high school . Maybe I should reread it as an adult. I like the short stories that I have read by Hawthorne "Young Goodman Brown" and "The Minister's Black Veil" come to mind but reading "The Scarlett Letter" in high school has an absolute chore.

Worst movie..... that is a toughie. Do I go by biggest disappointment or just worst all round film? mmmmmmmm
I will pick "Highlander II The Quickening" I don't think I have ever been more let down by a film.
planet Zeist?!?!? WTF?!?!? Mad
It was like they worked hard to make it suck. It felt like I was being punished. Granted after many repeated viewings the first film is very flawed but it is still entertaining. The second film was.... *flashback*
O the horror. I need to sit down.

Worst book: The Hour of Blue by Robert Froese.

I read it in high school because I knew the author, he's a prof at the university. Interesting concept but poorly executed.

I brought it back to the library and talked to the school librarian. I said, "It was an interesting idea, but... not very well-written." And she said, "That's what I thought, but I didn't say anything because I didn't want to bias you."

*sigh*

I'd managed to mind bleach that film from my mind, thanks lan Razz

Hitler's Daughter. It's a kids' book. If you want to bash me for criticising a book solely on the excuse that I can't because it's a kids' book, than just watch me.
I'll begin by saying that in no way is being a children's story an excuse for being a bad one. This is a short book, but it's so amazingly dull that it felt longer. We're supposed to pity the protagonist by the end. But why? She is, in comparison to all the other characters, the most boring and pointless within the book.
