I was wondering if people could site specific songs/books/movies where it Neil Gaiman's works were used as inspiration? I had read on wikipedia that there were many, (like Tori Amos), but they failed to list which songs, etc.
I've been trying to search for a thread which might have this but couldn't find it, so I ask here! Thanks! |

Good question.
I know there's got to be loads of Tori songs, maybe Aitapata can swing by and mention them. The only one that jumps to my mind is "Tear in your Hand." I'd be really curious to know other literature that's been inspired by Gaiman. Isn't St. Count Zero's band called the Kindly Ones? ____________________________________________________________________ "Patriotism is defined as the last resort of a scoundrel. Well there is (usually) one neil reference per tori album.
One of Neil's recent post titles is from the song Space Dog from Under the Pink ("Where's Neil when you need him?") Also, I'm pretty sure the Beekeeper is Death. |

There's also going to be this, which will, one imagines, be full of Neil references.

Well, kind of. It goes a bit beyond just Death. Think of Death and Destiny and all them rolled into one. If you've read "Secret Life of Bees" you'll know what I mean. There was a non-fiction book written on the subject that Tori's mentioned several times (but I can never remember the title). If you read/listen to the lyrics pretty carefully, you'll see the Beekeeper, the one who takes care of the hive/garden, goes a bit beyond Death. Myself? I don't think it was an Endless Death reference. This one was going in a different direction. As far as references in songs, the best list is kept on the (sadly) defunct www.hereinmyhead.com. But due to the glorious and awesome powers of archive.org, you can still view the list here. edit : Gah. That previous page wasn't updated to reflect newer albums. There's a line from "Carbon" on Scarlet's Walk :

Our parents, they want the best of stuff for us. But right now, they got to do what's right for them. Because it's their time. Their time! Up there! Down here, it's our time. It's our time down here.
