i couldn't resist it - i bought it this morning, not sure when i'll get the chance to read it, but wondered if anyone else had read it and their thoughts.
~ I prefer to live in a country that's small, and old, and where no one would ever have the NERVE to wear a cape in public, whether they could leap tall buildings in a single bound or not. trolls are like pigeons..keep feeding them and they keep coming back and shitting in your street. |

I read it a couple of months ago. I liked it.

I read it. I liked it very much. And fairy tales ARE cruel...

Smauggy, have you read any of Terry Winding's fairy tale series? The ones she (she, right?) edited? My favorites are Tam Lin by Pamela Dean and Jack the Giant Killer by Charles de Lint. Good books if you enjoy fairy tale twists. ******************************** The only really sane person in there is Igor, and possibly the turnip. yes! i just read it after being recommended by the nice man in the bookshop, when i couldn't make up my mind whether to buy just one book (Fragile Things) or to try and find two others to take advantage of a 3 for 2 offer. and i got the Book of Lost Things. i loved it. will reread it many times, i would think.
it's beautifully constructed, and wonderfully cruel in a way that disney has tried to stop fairytales being. "Are you a princess? I said & she said I'm much more than a princess, but you don't have a name for it yet here on earth." -Brian Andreas Limertilly: A pagan deity forgotten by man and therefore banished to the realms of memory and darkness now remembered by a young girl in downtown L.A. in the form of a dream and therefore freed to reap your revenge on the people who discarded you, thereby forcing said girl to learn to use her innate yet awesome powers as a soothsayer to gather forces of the Earth to defy you and once more banish you to your cold, cold prisoooooon |

I ordered Pam Lim the other day, it's on its way to me. I'm really looking forward to reading it.
But back on topic - you all got me really interested in this one. |

Just bought this book. Never heard about it before, but there was a sale on english pockets, and it looked good. Only read the first chapter, but I'm liking it so far.
