Thought it'd be nice to collect reviews of kids books by comics creators. They make great gifts - creators you know in formats your kid cousins can have read to them!

Terrabella Smoot and the Unsung Monsters
by Jon "Bean" Hastings
This one just came out yesterday. Bean did the comic Smith Brown Jones and edited Spark Generators, an anthology about creator's inspirations. I liked this one. It's a silly story - you can tell the guy grew up on cartoons. It's his first storybook. Z enjoyed it a bunch and has been talking about it

Zen Stories
by Jon J Muth
People will probably know Muth from Sandman #74 (the ink and brush issue). This is a wonderful picture book about a panda (vaguely Totoroesque poses) that lives next door who uses zen stories to teach the kid lessons. Muth also did a picture book of Stone Soup (among others), but this one is better

Many Tales From Faraway Lands
illustrated by Linda Medley
This is out of print, but you can find it fairly inexpensively on the used market. Fairytales from different regions of the world with Linda "Castle Waiting" illustrations throughout (ala the Castle Waiting covers as oppossed to the interior art). The stories are told very quickly, but they still work.

The Towers of Numar
by Michael Gagne
Gagne's (who did the Zed comic, and the Batman: Spore story) books are all worth getting. I listed this one because I think I've read it to Z the most. His stories and poems are good, but his alphabet and counting books are worth ordering for kids who will be twisted when they're older. Lots of fun animal designs

if there's interest, I'll add some more later

Sounds interesting, especially the Linda Medley one - I've been looking for Castle Waiting tpb's for ages.

Have you heard about Dave Coopers kids book Sponge's Lucky Hat? I don't think it's come out but it looks super nice.

I hadn't heard of that one - I'll keep an eye out.

Here's the cover of the Medley one:
