So, I'm in the middle of the Book Thief by Markus Zusak right now. Narrated by death, it's about a little girl growing up in Nazi Germany who steals books.
It's ... interesting. I'm not quite sure that it really works. There are moments when I really enjoy it, but there are so many more where I think that Zusak is just trying too hard to be clever. Is it just me or anyone else? It's like loitering, but mean. -- Jon Stewart on lurking |

I read it last year. It was okay. Not great, but not too bad.
I don't recall thinking in particular thinking that Zusak was trying too hard, but I didn't put a whole lot of thought into the book in general. It was just recreational reading. ******************************** The only really sane person in there is Igor, and possibly the turnip. And I'm not so sure about the turnip. ~~ Terry Pratchett |

Just got this, book club assigned reading. Has its moments, but the narrator Death grates, Pratchett nailed Death's voice once and for all.

This is well-trodden ground, and what sets The Book Thief apart? Nothing.
And I gotta say, WORST DEATH EVER. |
