So, I'm in the middle of the Book Thief by Markus Zusak right now. Narrated by death, it's about a little girl growing up in Nazi Germany who steals books.

It's ... interesting. I'm not quite sure that it really works. There are moments when I really enjoy it, but there are so many more where I think that Zusak is just trying too hard to be clever.

Is it just me or anyone else?

I read it last year. It was okay. Not great, but not too bad.
I don't recall thinking in particular thinking that Zusak was trying too hard, but I didn't put a whole lot of thought into the book in general. It was just recreational reading.

The only really sane person in there is Igor, and possibly the turnip. And I'm not so sure about the turnip.

Just got this, book club assigned reading. Has its moments, but the narrator Death grates, Pratchett nailed Death's voice once and for all.

This is well-trodden ground, and what sets The Book Thief apart? Nothing.

And I gotta say, WORST DEATH EVER.
