Sounds like a rip-off of the Watchmen.

That is so ... weird. It's like an echo from 1602.

I was just thinking about something like that.

Hmmm...I may start buying comics semi-regularly again.

Unless...I can hold out for a collected edition.

I was kind of iffy on this...until I read the New Avengers Illuminati special. The way they laid everything out there got me psyched. I *have* to get my ass to the comic shop and pick up the first issue. Captain America -- Fugitive? 'Nuff said. Smile

I'd read it, if I read comic books, of course.

I read issue 1 last night. It rocked. Captain American going rogue was fricking awesome. I'm already wishing they'd just drop the whole story in a trade right away instead of having to wait monthly for each new issue.

I haven't read Marvel comics seriously sence 8th grade. I wounldn't know where to begin. However, I am glad that they are working the "real" marvel universe up to 1602.

HP, if you're interested in getting back into the Marvel Universe, this might be a good place to jump back in.

I really don't have the spare cash at the moment. Prehaps I'll pick it up when it comes out in TPB.

Yeah, what others are you going to buy, SP? There's an insane amount of tie-ins (like usual with this sort of thing). The Illuminati special is worth it, I think. There's something called Civil War: Front Line. I have no idea what that's about, but I might take a look at the very least. All the other tie-ins, I'm not so sure about.

I just read the first issue of Civil War last weekend.

I like the concept and the reflection on current real world issues. Although I like Captain America, I'm not ready to pick sides...yet.

My instinct is to follow Captain America on this one, but I think this series is going to expose a lot of hypocrisies that currently exist within humans in general.

IE what is being accountable and and what is freedom? Can both really, truly exist or is one or both compromised and justified in the name of fighting evil? Do you just pick and choose which elements of each that you want to follow and then accuse others of not following laws that you want them to.

I know it's early, but I don't really think either side is wrong at this point.

I think the series is very definitely going to keep the "Which Side is Right" in the gray, which will make for a more interesting story. Both sides have reasons for believing in which side they pick. I don't think Captain America would've gone rogue if SHIELD hadn't tried to give him orders and make him their hitman. And seeing what happened to Iron Man at the funeral, I can understand why he would sign up, too.

But if I had to pick a side, I'd be running with the outlawed heroes for sure.

Yeah, or if you're into DC you get the new All Star (Batman & Robin; Superman; and a slew of others coming).

But Civil War doesn't have anything to do with the Ultimate line...The Ultimate line's been around for, what, 5-6 years? Dunnor for sure, I haven't paid that much attention to them...

i was just referring to the general role of the government in the comics. and dc's all-star titles are, well, something else. Frank Miller should NEVER write Batman again. he took this unique opportunity to create a new Batman from the beginning, and what does he do? just makes it a prequel to DKR (DKSA doesnt exist in my world).

Yes, YES YES YES YES!!!

I so agree. I enjoyed DKR actually...I think. I read it a while back. I've only just recently finished DKSA and I was like...WTF???

What the hell was going on there?! Crappy art work and a plot that makes no sense, or rather it's full of hints of plot and story and rather should have been several seperate comics all together.
