The Science Fiction Bookclub put out an edition with all three Johnny Maxwell stories in it a few years ago that I couldn't pass up. They were great fun.

A paperback edition of Science of Discworld II The Globe arrived today. The typeface is so small I may have to get reading glasses.

Did anyone mention Hogfather as a tv show, and I just missed it??

I will have to rely on UK people for a review and just wait impatiently 'til it shows up on American telly... but apparently Mr Pratchett is playing the Toymaker!

Hogfather on TV?

Wow ... I don't know whether to cheer or give a horrified scream.

On the other hand, the new Tiffany Aching book, Wintersmith, is due out quite soon - that definitely deserves a cheer.

You are a Confectioner. Who can take a sunrise and sprinkle it with dew? Actually, that's Bob The Enchanter, two doors down on the left. But you make delectable treats, which is no simple feat considering Oompa Loompas won't be invented for three centuries. Not only do you delight with your sweets, but you've paved the way for a new profession: dentistry!

OK, pix of the Hogfather show in filming ... on the website of Paul Kidby (British illustrator who's done a lot of U.K. Pratchett covers, Art of Discworld, etc.):

Street scenes (some w/ Death) plus a shot of Susan in what seems to be her "Grand-daughter of Death" get-up (as opposed to her governess get-up).

Unseen University filming (scroll past cast list): wizards in formal UU robes.

Looks moderately promising, anyway.

As it's being made by Sky, I have very very low expectations for it.

for those of you who have read Going Postal:

As an American the whole Dimwell Street arhythmic rhyming slang just slipped right past me. Was it funny to anyone else?

and observation from Night Watch:

Lady/Madam Roberta Meserole (Vetinari's aunt) - What is she, exactly? A witch? It only said she lived in Genua, not that she was from there. But, the whole champagne thing seemed odd, and I keep feeling like I'm missing something.

I can't remember the slang so much, but Lady Roberta Meserole was a seamstress. Hem hem.

yeah, I got the "seamstress" bit, but I still often feel like I'm missing some big inside joke.

I know that the rhyming slang's probably a take off cockney rhyming slang, which I think has been made up for tourists by guide book companies. ("apples and pears" for "up the stairs" is the traditional example normally used)

Um, Hi.
*Waves*
I love Terry Pratchett...My favorite book is probably either Night Watch or Jingo (Vimes is my favorite character). I also like Susan, Lu-Tze, and Vetinari.
Anyone know when the next Discworld book is coming out/what it's about?

will that be another Tiffany Aching book?

I vaguely remember that line from Wee Free Men - Tiffany said to herself, when I'm old I'll wear midnight.

yeah, exactly. I'm glad he's in a groove and all that and I love the side of Granny Weatherwax that we see interacting with Tiffany, but sheesh!

I don't know if I'd want that cake or not. I'm not sure if I'd find it more sacreligious to eat something so beautiful, or to wilfully not eat something edible that was right in front of me!

All that I know is that that cake is AMAZING!
