ahah. sorry.

definitely. but then you have to wonder whether the humour could be part of the landscape in the later books without laying the groundwork ealier on. he's got to a stage now where he's done so much work creating the discworld that he can just let things flow. but the work did have to be done. even just the throwaway plot devices like the broken (mended) drum, or mrs cake - there's a reason why they can be throwaway lines now and that's because of the previous development. and i love the books for that.

Well, there's a whole 'nother forum waiting to be reactivated with new ideas about American Gods. Or new iterations of old ones, considering that there are threads there that haven't been updated since the book came out.

*snerk* I already did!

I'm currently re-re-re-re-re-reading The Last Continent. I'm also looking forward to his next book, Nation, which is not Discworldy.

The Pratchgan

When the alzheimer's story came out, a great many people on Ravelry got the notion to make an afghan for Terry Pratchett. (I wasn't one of them, but I am in awe of all the amazing blocks that were created!)

This thing is just brilliant! As I said, I wasn't involved - I just think this whole creation and all the creators need more recognition. Smile

Nation

as usual with a new hardback I will get it from the library, and then buy the paperback if i need to re-read it constantly.

i'm a bit nervous about this i must admit, a non-discworld book.

but...it is getting good reviews.

anyone any thoughts?

er, I'll let you know after September 30th

I'm quite looking forward to it.

ETA: I used to order his books from the UK - and I still prefer the UK editions, but seriously, I can't wait that long for it to get mailed to me. Smile

i have reservations about nation. i read the synopsis and it didn't grab me. and with it not being discworld.. i just don't know. i haven't enjoyed his other non-discworld books nearly as much as i have the series (i'm counting the tiffany books and maurice as discworld in that, altho i can't remember where maurice is set).

i will probably get it, but not in hardback (which tends to be what i get the new discworld ones in now. i am impatient!). i really, really hope it's better than it sounds.

Well, Mark Lawson has just blown it by describing DiscWorld as a series of books about a Sphere carried on the back of elephants . . .

I can just picture Lawson sneering down his nose looking for excretia under his fingernails (a mannerism which annoys the hell out of me when watching him interview someone who's work and world view I have an interest in).
