Take your time with that schedule - I've started but I'm such a slow reader it hurts...

how'd i miss this? i'm in! except... i guess i'm starting with dark is rising because that's the only one i have with me at the moment. boo. gotta go back to my parent's and get the rest!
i was confused when i first got to them in grade school too. i figured dark is rising sequence. must start w/ dark is rising, right? it worked out alright really, i think both dark is rising or over sea under stone are good starting points.

OK, I finished the first one. I'm mostly through the second one which I like a lot better.

Have I missed the schedule?

Anyway, I've just started on the second one & like Maeve, prefer this one. In fact, I tend to think it's miles better, but I have to see how it develops.

after finishing Greenwitch: There doesn't seem to be any real conflict, even in the first book the only thing that really happened was the case got knocked down. The second book seems like, Will shows up at a certain place and gets a Sign. He doesn't really have to fight for it or answer any questions ... it's just not much of a quest.

Don't get me wrong, I am enjoying the books, and I realise they're for kids, but so was Coraline and in order to resolve the problem Coraline had to think her way through it, she had to be clever. These kids seem to have to just be there (Will moreso than Simon and Barney and Jane)

I've finished the first one and I am about 2/3 through the second, which I am enjoying much more. I think Over Sea... is abit too straight forward, plot wise, plus it's totally obvious about the tide coming in before they can get back to the beach. I remember that this was my least favourite as a kid....

Okay, so it wasn't just my laziness. I tried this series on multiple occasions when I was a kid and never finished the first book. I liked the tone and ideas, but every time about half-way I lost interest and dropped it.

I'm most of the way through The Grey King and there's a bit more suspense in this one, but still, it's all just Will has to be at a certain place and poof, he's there.

I did appreciate the Welsh pronunciation help Smile It's still very difficult to try and wrap my brain around those words.

Ok ... I'll tell you this. I got The Dark is Rising. Now, without spoilers, I want to ask this: should I read this book first or the book that precedes it?

Will it matter, or is it like reading The Lion, the Witch, and Wardrobe before The Magician's Nephew? Thanks. Smile

Mythos, I read Dark Is Rising first. I think that is the best intro to the series. However, after that, if I were you, I'd go back a read Over Sea, Under Stone before reading the rest of the series. Especially Greenwitch.

(Of course, I think it's a travesty to read Magician's Nephew before L,W&W. I'm the person who rearranges the books in bookstores to what the order SHOULD be! Razz)

yeah, the first two are quasi-independent but you have to read those two first, to know all the characters in the third.
