We can be fairly sure of a few:
-Nagini
-Slytherin's Locket
-Hufflepuff's Goblet
-Marvolo's Ring
-Tom Riddle's Diary
That leaves only one, and given the theme, I am gonna have to agree its probably just some obscure object owned by Ravenclaw, or maybe even Gryffindor's sword...just Dumbledore never realized he was safeguardin the Horcrux.

Honestly, everything discussed in the other thread about Quirrel and Wormtail using or coming in contact with Horcruxes is pure speculation, the whole thing is probably just gonna be a huge blow to us all. No one knows HOW a horcrux is activated or what it really does. But in thinking that Quirrell or that snake in the Albanian forests came across a Horcrux isn't ridiculously far-fetched since none of us know HOW a horcrux resurrectst he user. But I think that Voldemort never used a horcrux to come back from his death in GoF, that seemed like just some good ol' fashioned ancient dark magic considering he had to use his father's bones and harry's blood, that whole scene shows its way to complicated to use a horcrux...especially since Voldemort PROBABLY used one up in Albania with Quirrell and his soul bit never fully dissipated from this world.

How about the sorting hat?

My only issue with the sorting hat would be the argument that the hat itself was created as a sentient object. I think sentience would be a blocker to the whole horcrux thing.

I believe it will be Snape who will help HP destroy the 6th and 7th, which are Nagini and LV himself - in another word the Half Blood Prince will be a big part of the final fight.

Locket and Goblet are easy (had hints in this book) and it could be that the locket hasn't been destroyed yet (the note says "intend to" and that's how RAB died). But Harry will have to find the the unknown one - something that's from the school.

So, who do you guys think took the locket? Like I said in different forums, I think that Regulus A. Black took it.

This will be a perfectly fitting theory as long as the age thing works out...I'm not too good at that and have to go back to the other books to figure out the timeline.

But very very likely, it's either RB or Rxxx and Black. That Rxxx has to be an underage or non-wizard.

It seems that this Horcrux has to be somehow evil...like the diary.

I had a few ideas about the horcruxes.
Firstly we all know what happened to Dumbledore's hand after he destroyed the ring so surely there will be hexes on the other items as well, morre powerful because the ring was the first horcrux meaning the hex Voldemort put on it will have been put on it by the younger Tom Riddle.

Another thing is the number seven. What was so special about it? Why did Riddle want seven horcruxes? Is it a coincidence that there are seven horcruxes and seven books? Maybe we have met each horcrux in each individual book.

I believe that Harry's scar is the other horcrux. Dumbledore mentions that it could be either something that belongs to Ravenclaw or something that belongs to Gryfindor; what belongs more to Gryfindor than it's heir? Could this be Harry?

Another thing that doesn't really have anything to do with Horcruxes is that I believe Snape isn't evil because when he and Malfoy's mother made the unbreakable vow Snape knew he would die if Dumbledore didn't die. Would Snape have made this vow if he didn't know Dumbledoe was going to die? No, Dumbledore was possibly the most powerful wizard in the world; far greater than Snape and I don't believe Snape would put his life on the line just to help Malfoy. This is why I think it was all pre-arranged between Snape and Dumbledore.

Obviously 7 is JKR's favorite number...It will be really neat that each book has a horcrux in it, even a brief mention of that object...but it's not easy to match the ones we've been given to the books we've read (diary is in No.2)... anybody can finish the matching task? Would horcrux No.7 LV himself be book 1 or book 7? If book 1, then we obvious will only be given the unknown horcrux in book 7...

I still think 1 horcrux for each book is almost too logical/perfect to be true...

I don't think so:
1) the horcrux has to be protected for the purpose of immortality - obviously LV is not protecting Harry's scar nor Harry himself
2) the scar was created when LV tried to kill Harry, and that was when he was going to create the last horcrux - he ended up turning that snake into his last horcrux instead. I don't think there's more to that quick moment of killing - to create a horcrux you obviously need to plan ahead and take more time to conceal it.
3)If LV accidentally created a horcrux out of Harry or his scar, then that'd be seven and he wouldn't have to work on the snake.

There are seven horcruxes because it is the most magical number. Tom/ Voldemort said that in the book.

Major doubt, Dumbledore knows Harry needs his support he is selfless, but not stupid, unless there's another way Dumbledore can support harry and Continue thwarting Voldemort, while he's dead, he has NO REASON to make pacts of death with Snape. Clearly Dumbledore is too crucial a wizard.

I have researched the number seven on the internet and this is what I found:
  • The Seven Deadly Sins (lust, avarice, envy, pride, sloth, gluttony and anger)
  • Seven witches make a coven
  • The beast has seven horns (see Revelation 17) interpreted as the seven hills on which Rome stands
  • A death is mourned for 7 days
  • Around the world seven was the number of heavenly powers that man depended upon, and seven itself became a special number.

Here's a question. If the potion that was in the basin that protected the locket, why would Voldemort use one that would cause death? Wouldn't he want, in case he died, his faithful Death Eaters to get the locket without them dieing? He would probably want as many followers to help him later on in his "path for greatness".

Yeah, I know. Back to my original question: Why would Voldemort want such a powerful potion if one of his Death Eaters were to get the locket so that he could once again be whole? Wouldn't he want them alive to cause more devestaion?
