anything in particular about Lovecraft or just a big green monster pic?

just trying to understand what you're getting at starting a topic and then having a link to another discussion board...

Hey Maeve... Well, i was going to post everything over here in its entirety, but i see nothing wrong with posting a link back to my forum, especially concerning HP Lovecraft.. It saved me half an hour of having to copy and paste everything, and it only takes one second to click a link....

The Internet is big enough for all of us ain't it?! People come promote their stuff at my forum all the time...More power to em...

Besides, not asking anybody to post over there.. I'm sure there are plenty of posts at the Neil Gaiman forum that are just links leading somewhere else aren't there...?

BTW, the big green monster is Cthulhu.. Not to be confused with other big green monsters like Hulk, Shrek, or Frankenstien....

Eek

Believe me, the number of people here who can't identify Cthulu... well, it's damn small.

yeah... I also knew it was Cthulu. and I guess I just really wanted to know which part of all those posts on another board you really wanted to discuss. so, it saved half an hour, but seriously confused me because I don't know what point you're trying to get across. Generally when people post links they also either quote something from that article or at least give their opinion of it.

Hello, mad, and welcome to the boards!

Please don't be offended if our posters have questioned your link. We don't like being treated as free ad-space. Pertinent bit from our FAQ:

quote:
B. Spam
No spam is allowed. This includes, but is not limited to:
*Newcomers asking for attention for their website/cause/book/etc. We expect posters to come to contribute not to use us.
*Ebay promotions. We do not allow any ebay promotions either from newcomers or old timers, even if the item is a super-rare Neil item. On the rare occasion, an ebay link will be allowed, usually if the proceeds are all for charity, but the link must be approved by the mods first.
*Self-promotion. For newcomers, it is generally not tolerated. We feel like we're being used. For old-timers, it is more tolerated as it's more about sharing your life. If you don't know if something should be posted, please contact the mods.

As it appears you have been posting in other locations on our board and it does seem like this isn't a run-by spamming, we're not saying anything official. We welcome you and hope you'll stick around to play.

I think the biggest issue is that our posters are way too internet-savvy to click on links that don't have an explanation or tell us what it's about. Too many bad things can happen from that (and goodness knows most of them have happened to me). So, next time, and next link, tell us what it's about before you ask us to click on it.

Thanks, and hope you enjoy the board!

Amy

ps - Yes. There's very few members on this board who don't know who Cthulhu is. Even the board babies get an early education on him.

Ok Pata, sorry for the confusion, i'll be more careful about it in the future... I was just hoping that if enough people clicked the link that the extra-dimensional vortex would open up and allow the gateway to break free and the Old Ones could once again come through to rule the world of us feeble and puny mortals.. That's all.... Eek

I remember reading Lovecraft a loooooong time ago and getting freaked out and having nightmares! I'm not a horror chickie! Tried to get my Mum to read it, but she was more visual oriented. so I know *of* stuff, but that's about it.

completely off topic, I really love your tree avatar! I'm currently knitting a shawl that has a big tree on the back and will also have a trailing vine pattern and dangly leafs all over.

Hey Maeve, Yeah, i'm a fan of Lovecraft, at least his writings, i don't always agree with the man's viewpoints.. But, i've in no way read all of his works.. I've got about 5 books worth of his short stories, but have probably only read about 30-40% of it all so far.. I've dabbled in reading Lovecraft on and off since my high school years..

I find him one of those writers who are inspiring, because you can read some of his earliest works, and while it isn't totally horrible, it's still pretty clumsy and awkward. Yet, it still turns out to be a decent short story or train of thought.. It's nice to see more rough draft versions of famous/talented authors works, i find it motivating in my own writing..

Another author who is like this is Richard Matheson.. He's got a lot of short stories, but some of them seem a little too relaxed, or don't appear to be worded properly.. But, they still turn out to be great tales because of the unique quality of the story line and theme..

Neil Gaiman and Alan Moore remind me of this generations H.P. Lovecraft's or Poe, not only because of the types of subject matter they cover, but also because of the connection to comic books...

Neil does the introduction to the book of short stories 'The Dream Cycle of H.P. Lovecraft: Dreams of Terror and Death'. Fitting, ain't it?? Razz

And sounds like a cool shawl Maeve! Hope you let us see it somehow.. Maybe it will assume super powers of levitation or invisibility!?!!!

A professor from chair of quantum and optical electronics of the Ulyanovsk State University in western Russia has patented a method of making things invisible, Interfax news agency reported.

The so-called invisibility cloak, created by Oleg Gadomsky, is called “The method of conversion of optical radiation” in the patent.

Gadomsky had been long experimenting on nanoparticles of gold. Thus, he invented a sub-micron stratum of microscopical colloid golden particles that makes an object placed behind it invisible for an observer.

“Only static objects can be made invisible for the time present, as during motion a radiation frequency changes. But soon it will be possible to create a cap of darkness and a magic cloak of Harry Potter, the scientist believes.
