Alan Moore

Warren Ellis (My favorites are Fell, Doktor Sleepless, and Transmet)

Mike Carey (Yes, of course we all know about Lucifer. It's great, but he also wrote this AWESOME series called Faker. Which you should all read. It's good.)

As a kid I loved a lot of Marvel stuff by Roy Thomas in particular, his work on Thor.

I liked Steve Englehart and Jim Shooter's runs on Avengers as well as the rebirth given by Kurt Busiek in later years.

I liked John Byrne's work on the Fantastic Four and Alpha Flight.

For a good part of his run I thought Chris Claremont's work on X-Men was superb.

I liked Jim Starlin's Dreadstar and I liked Peter David's take on it as well.

Art Spigleman's Maus series is haunting and powerfull.

I have enjoyed a lot of the work by Garth Ennis. He run on Hellblazer was great and I loved Preacher.

Warren Ellis is awesome. I LOVED Planetary and Transmet.

I have yet to read anything by Alan Moore that I did not like.

And there is this bloke named Neil Gaiman who is not to shabby of a writer.

I am sure I left someone out.

I am slowly working my way through the Hellboy TPBs. I was "eh" at first, but they've been strongly recommended so I kept at them; they're growing on me.

Like fungus. Tasty, tasty fungus.

And now, I'm hungry.

There are two things I enjoy about Hellboy: the atmosphere (mostly conveyed by the visuals, which is why Hellboy done by anyone else than Mignola rarely works for me) and the main character. The stories themselves are okay, but it's the other two things that make it work.

That, and the fungus.

I'm generally not a huge fan of Mignola's artwork, but it really fits Hellboy well.

Moore has always been one of my favorites. I just started Promethea. Miracleman and Watchmen are both top 5 for me. I still need to read his Swamp Thing run.

I'll second Jim Shooter, specifically his Valiant work. I loved Harbinger and Shadowman.

About a year ago, I found Kaare Andrews who wrote and illustrated Spiderman:Reign. It's 4 issue mini kinda like Dark Knight for Spidey.

I'll always have a soft spot for Jeff Smith's Bone.

I loved Harbinger, at least the issues Shooter was directly involved with. The early Valiant(first 10-15 issues) was a pretty magical time with Magnus, Turok, etc...

I thought Shooter was one of the best Editor in Chiefs Marvel ever had.
