i'm almost through reading "The History of Danish Dreams" and i love it, absolutely great.
is there anything else by this author which i would adore likewise? i know he's the author of "Smilla's Sense of Snow", i only saw the movie, quite liked it, but being a sort of mystery/thriller i already know that's not exactly what i'm looking for.
suggestions anyone?

This is a little embarrasing, but I've never actually read "The History of Danish Dreams". (But then I guess there must be SOME Italians who've never read Dante's Inferno or "The Name of the Rose" )

However I've read the short story collection he wrote afterwards "Tales of the Night", and it's pretty good, and as far as I know somewhat similar to the earlier book. His early work was heavily influenced by Karen Blixen/Isak Dinesen, particularly her "Seven Gothic Tales".

The books he wrote after "Smilla", "BOrderliners" and "The WOman and the Ape", didn't get that great reviews.

I really, really liked Smilla's Sense of Snow, although I've never seen the movie. For me it was driven more by atmosphere than plot though.

Apparently Smilla was heavily influenced by Tintin comic books he read as a kid, which kinda makes sense. Particularly the arctic adventure story "THe Shooting Star" has some similarities.

I liked the book, but never saw the movie. The movie got some really bad reviews. Bille August is a sellout crap director when he does English language movies.
