I was doing my 'old thread' wandering and I came across a neat thread concept. I thought I would see if it could be resurrected.
Here's the plan:
The first person starts with a review of a book. Opinions are great, and encouraged, so it's not just a new jacket blurb. If you would like to give up the ending, or tell who the bad guys are, white it out. That way the people who read your review can still try it out if they are interested and still be a little surprised.
After the review section you select a title that you would like reviewed. The next person to review states they will be doing that review so there aren't doubles for the same book. Then the cycle continues. If you don't agree with a review, keep it clean. Differences in opinions happen. No name callingSmile

And to start:
I'm reviewing Green Rider by Kristen Britain.

This tale is set in Sacoridia, a land who long ago disowned it's magical heritage, literally blocking it off behind a sky high wall. But something has happened to the wall and wild magic is leaking out, affecting different things in different ways. Wild creatures are attacking physically while the magic transforms things in it's path outwards. Merchant Guild heir Karigan G'ladheon has just been suspended from school for fighting with the son of a noble man. She runs away from school in an attempt to beat the letter of suspension home. On her way she encounters a man on the side of the road with arrows sticking out of his back. He is a Green Rider, the King's personal messengers, and with his dying breath he asks Karigan to finish his mission and carry his message back to the king. He gives her his broach that marks him as a messenger. Karigan takes his broach, the message, and his horse and sets off on a mission that will prove to be amazing and terrifying in equal measures. Chased by the man who killed her predecessor, and saddled with a horse who is beyond intelligent and a broach that can turn her invisible she has to fight magics not seen for hundreds of years.
At times the story has a very girly feel. Not ribbons and bows, but spoken from the females point of view. Romance between Karigan and the kingis played with a few times, in a rather heavy handed manner but thankfully it doesn't go anywhere. At no point does it feel like Karigan is a weak child who needs to be saved by the strong male characters. She can hold her own and does so through the end. All in all a solid fantasy novel that is growing into a series.

I would like someone to review a novel by Sheri Tepper, in honor of the last un-completed challenge of the last thread. Companions, Fresco, your pickSmile
