I've always enjoyed the transcendentalists but really haven't read them since high school. I want to explore them again, and thought I'd come to you for suggestions on collections I should check out, specific writers, specific pieces. So hit me with your favorite transcendentalism. Thanks.

I'm guessing that y'all slept through lit class or the transcendentalists weren't among your favorites. Either way I found a good wiki reference that'll get me started again.

Um, er, Ralph Waldo Emerson? Henry David Thoreau? I think Nathaniel Hawthorne too. These are the really obvious ones so I didn't bother posting.

I can't think of "Transcendentalists" without picturing Campbell Grant's illustration of them in Richard Armour's immortal Classics Reclassified*. They were sitting around, being morbid ... I just can't get into them, I'm afraid!

*Worth reading, if you haven't already. (Heh, I see Emerald had already flacked this at some point.)

You are a Confectioner. Who can take a sunrise and sprinkle it with dew? Actually, that's Bob The Enchanter, two doors down on the left. But you make delectable treats, which is no simple feat considering Oompa Loompas won't be invented for three centuries. Not only do you delight with your sweets, but you've paved the way for a new profession: dentistry!

Emerson's Essays have always been in my top ten favoritest things ever written ever. I love him.

Louisa May Alcott's father is in the trancendentalist group, I believe, but I've never gotten around to reading any of him.

Hey, LibraryMod, I found a slew of his essays online. Any few you'd recommend off the top? Otherwise I'm just gonna start clickin'.
