And once again Randy says it better than I ever could.

I've read very little Anne Rice, but this seems like an interesting turn for her. At the very least, I think it will be something new (I heard the last couple Vampire books were just the same thing, over and over again).

The comic you linked was quite funny, though.

Might also just be the flipside of the Memnoch the Devil (was that the tiel?) coin, so to speak. Which had a couple of interesting bits, but as a novel it was a mess, and a badly overwritten one at that.

Anne Rice writing for the Lord. Somehow that just seems wrong.

This could be really quite fascinating and I'm really looking forward to it. But then, there's quite a lot of appeal for the more Gothic Catholocism that I've always found to be the most compelling side to her work.

It will be like Dylan's crappy born again period, except Dylan was good before his born again phase, and he briefly got good again some years afterwards.

I miss the "Anne Rice has lost it" thread, that's a classic!

I'm assuming the tone she's going to use for the Jesus narration will be "Rambling and unedited." Just a shot in the dark Razz

i'm not going to hijack. just listen to 'gotta serve somebody'. the Shirley Bassey cover is a good one. he had good born again moments. and he's been good in everything he's released since i started listening

anyway, this yieled some great Metafilter quotes... stuff like "it'll be good to get away from blood-drinking, cannabalism, and things that come back from the dead... oh wait" and "its like millions of goth livejournals cried out in anger and were suddently silenced"

also... i don't want to risk any flames, but i don't consider Anne Rice quite as good a writer as Bob Dylan.
heck, i haven't read her in ages, but some of my favorite literary works were inspired by Catholicism. Dante's Inferno, anyone?

Why is it so hard for me to find other Anne Rice fans? Yes, I hear that she rambles on, needs a real editor, and should know better when to quit. But despite all that, I still love her work enormously.

I have never found another writer that luxuriates in such a blend of sensuous beauty and tragedy, melding history and such a huge scope of themes.

Flame her all you like, I will still defend her even if I'm all alone in it.

i'm sure there are plenty about, Czarina!

But from other fans i know, it seems the more recent stuff has descended into a bit of a dead end.

I remember reading the Anne Rice loses it thread and thinking it was sad how much she seemed to feel trapped by the whole world of interview with a vampire, and that she just felt relieved to have it done with.

maybe she feels like Don McLean!

I heard about this new thing. Apparently she has returned to the Catholic church, the same one she left at the age of 18. I never much liked Anne Rice. I own a few of her books and I couldn't stand the way she wrote.

In addition, it doesn't surprise me that she has turned back to Catholicism. If the woman possibly believed in the existence of vampires, then why not also believe in the existence of Jesus...the first real vampire... lol (ok I'm just being mean now. Forgive me.)

this actually comes up in one of her books

its probably a spoiler, but i think somewhere in Vampire Lestat the Easter story is told in terms of her vampires

ya know, buried for 3 days, rising from the dead... makes as much sense as anything

One of my favorite books by her is Cry to Heaven. I used to like the Vampire Chronicles until it got to Memnoch the Paperwait. I can't really picture Rice writing about Jesus. The only good when Jesus was a kid story I have read is the gospel according to Bif; Christ's childhood pal.

just 'cause

Jesus' brother bob - Arrogant worms

If you haven't heard of me I wouldn't be suprised
I bet you know my relatives, their names will never die
My mother is a saint and my brother is a god
But all I am is Jesus brother Bob
Jesus brother Bob, Jesus brother Bob
A nobody relative of the son of god
If only I'd been born just a little sooner
I'd be more than the brother of god jr.
I have to pay the ferry to cross the galilee
but not my brother (no not him) he walks across for free
I finally get to work bout a quarter after nine
Already he's turning water into wine
Jesus brother Bob, Jesus brother Bob
A nobody relative of the son of god
If only I'd been born, just a little sooner
I'd be more than the brother of god jr.
One day when I was home, I heard a mighty roar (roar)
There were a thousand people right outside the door
"Help us Jesus, Help us" came the cheering from the mob
Then they got a look at me "ah nuts it's only Bob"
Jesus brother Bob, Jesus brother Bob
A nobody relative of the son of god
If only I'd been born, just a little sooner
I'd be more than the brother of god jr.
He died up on the cross, I thought that I was free
Finally people would get to know me for me (hi bob, hey judas, hey)
This was my big chance, to finally get ahead
The next thing you know, he's rising from the dead
Jesus brother Bob, Jesus brother Bob
A nobody relative of the son of god
If only I'd been born, just a little sooner
I'd be more than the brother of god jr.
Everybody!
Jesus brother Bob, Jesus brother Bob
A nobody relative of the son of god
If only I'd been born, just a little sooner
I'd be more than the brother of god jr.
Ahhhhhhh- Bob

maybe she'll write about him next... Big Grin
