Well, after reading Sunbird (it ranks in the top three of my Neil short stories - Behind Study in Emerald and Monarch of the Glen, but I haven't read Smoke and Mirrors yet), and noting that Neil said it was written in the style of R. A. Lafferty, I rushed to ebay and bought two of his books: 900 Grandmothers and Apocalypses (they were really cheap and the seller combined shipping).
They haven't yet arrived inthe mail, but I was wondering what of his stuff is your favorite/the best? What can I expect? |

His short stories are absolutely amazing. 900 Grandmother's is a great collection. They come in lots of different genres, really they're tall tales as much as anything. Great fun.
I struggle with his novels, to be honest, which I think are patchy, and often very complex and/or dense, but the short stories are things of beauty and wonder. |

I also picked up a copy of Strange Doings.
