that was the first of his novels i ever read. my grampa picked up a copy in his local library discard sale, way back when i was young, knowing that i had started to read SF. it messed with my head, and its still one of my favourites of his.

someone drew my attention to the fact that there are plans to make it into a film pretty soon. some of the folk that did scanner darkly are invovled, which seems promising.

in meantime, i finished "invention of morel" and started calvino;s "invisible cities" which i bought the same day.

I'm currently reading What Dreams May Come by Richard Matheson, and as far as I am into it, it feels almost life-changing for me. It's a great read. I took a break to read all that extra content in the back of Absolute Sandman Volume 1. I assume when I'm done with this I'll read Volume 2, then I'm considering re-reading American Gods or some more Lovecraft titles from the Library of America collection I have. Smile

Big Grin

and

Big Grin Big Grin

are you from the US rigpig? it did take the US a while to notice our PTerry

and i find if you didn't get into him 20 years ago, there are now a scarey amount of books to choose from!

I'm lucky, i is old Razz so i discovered him not quiet straight away, but 3 or 4 books in before there was too much of a backlog to catch up on.

yay for PTerry and his many many books.

You are an Accomptant. You keep track of the King's accounts, which is a fairly simplish job: his current holdings is always A LOT, and his expected revenue is always MORE. 'Sgood ta be da King. As long as there isn't a peasant uprising, you're likely to keep your head. Also, you're the only one in the office who knows how to use an abbacus. (Or multiply.) (Or add.)

I'm in Canada, which is probably even slower. I have never seen any of his books at the used store but it seems our library has 69 titles of his books locally. It's great that there is a such a huge backlog of books to choose from, I have lots of great reading ahead of me. I don't want this book to ever end, lol!

I'm also on a Pratchett right now, The Amazing Maurice & His Educated Rodents. I love it - cats do make good protagonists. Big Grin

I recently finished The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (German translation of the French original). Quite moving, especially because it doesn't play the "I'm a poor sucker" card. There's a lightness and a sense of humour to the book that makes it stronger in effect.

Now I just got started on The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Both books I got from Cass for my birthday. Damn, that woman knows what I like. Big Grin

I've also just got started on Astonishing X-Men: Unstoppable. "Not 'Stench'?" Heh. I loves me some Whedon dialogues. Big Grin

You guys are saying Pratchett has a lot of books, what are some best of if I wanted to only read 2-max 5?

I love American Gods, Anansi Boys, and books that are fantasy but not too much, as the 2 listed previously, if that helps. =P

I liked the first two very much, with Rincewind in them - The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic. But Mort was my favourite!

I'm still reaching Darren Shan, Demon Apocolypse (if that's how you spell it! ... But I keep falling asleep - so I'm thinking they are not as good as the first few and maybe he's been told to spin em out!)

I finished The Dark Tower series by Stephen King. Interesting, entertaining, but I felt that it was slightly flawed and inconsistent. I disliked how inconsistant some of the facts were. I really liked the twist ending, and it was a very good conclusion. It sums up the theme of life being a wheel.
What I'm reading currently is The Stand by Stephen King. Complete and Uncut edition.
Also on the subject of King, I recently joined the Stephen King Message Board. Posts must be approved by a moderator. A good way to protect against vandalism, always assuming the moderator is not a vandal, but it has its flaws: it blocks direct communication. Dunno about private messages, but I doubt it applies to that. The only other problem I have with it is the over-protectiveness on King himself. It should be expected on his board, but it makes them seem over-indulgent on the safety of the board. When ever somebody criticises King (or suggests something negative), they instantly insult the user. The word "fanboy" comes to mind in some cases. Although I read more King than Gaiman, I have to admit that the latter has a way better board.

I just re-read A Game of You. It made more sense to me reading it now after the first 4 volumes, I got more of the allusions & connections between the characters. Still, I wonder: did people get all the interconnections at the time the comics first came out? I find it a lot easier to keep track when not too much time passes between reading the individual "episodes" (sorry if I'm getting the terminology wrong here). And of course it doesn't help if you read A Game of You without recognising the woman who's waving at Barbie next to Wanda on the second but last page. Wink

read the second of the new editions of the love & rockets collections over the weekend. read the first one (maggie the mechanic) about october, then picked up the next three in january. they are such slabs of books that they can be intimidating, but sitting at the weekend and reading them cover to cover is very satisfying. this one was "girl from hoppers", the second of jaime hernandez's collections, follows well from "maggie the mechanic". the other two i have by gilbert hernandez, who i took longer to get into than jaime.
