I have finished Men Without Women and found it disturbing and unsatisfying, but in a good way. fascinating ending, really, and, although not quite unexpected, definitely not "normal."

now I'm reading Mansfield Park. yes, I have a weakness for Jane Austen. I am a girl. I expect a "normal" ending from this one, but I like it, anyway.

scarlett thomas is great.
mr.y could be compared to the likes of "the ring", or banana yoshimoto's "NP", but those don't really sum it up at all.

A Kiss Before The Apocolypse by Thomas Sniegoski

So far it's pretty standard, not rivetting me to my seat. But good enough I'm not gonna give up on it.

awesome, i'll try and track some down (i have a bit of a history of putting out of print/hard to find books on my birthday list - mum seems to enjoy tracking them down for me!)

currently reading: across the nightingale floor

I also recently read Ian McEwan's "On Chesil Beach" having heard very, very bad reports about it from family and friends. I thought it was wonderful - beautifully written and incredibly sad. anyone else read it?

amazon marketplace is always helpful starting place for that kind of stuff. i guess i'd suggest, in order:
PopCo
Going Out
Bright Young Things.

the first three were a trilogy, so probably helps to read in order:
Dead Clever
In Your Face
Seaside

i got the nightingale floor out the library, but just couldn't get into it.

Oh, I read Nightengale Floor a while ago and really liked it - but when I read the other books in the series, I didn't like them nearly as much.

They're very similar in tone, so it's pretty surprising.

It was an interesting series. I only the first two. One in 2005 and then I lost the second book for a year or so and only read in in 2007. Both in the summer time. Marking two different points entirely.

The series was interesting. Smile

I liked it a lot and thought it was quite moving. I also thought it was utterly silly that they nominated it for the "Bad Sex Award". It's supposed to be bad sex! That's the entire point!
