I read Florida Roadkill on Amy's suggestion recently. It took me a little while to finish it as it became my travelling book, read solely on planes (I don't know why, I always read several books at a time, sometimes I end up associating a book with something).

It's a great read, I enjoyed it a lot more than Tourist Season (which is the only Hiasen I've read). Amy, which Dorsey book should I read next?

Oh, you're wonderful.

Well, there's two ways you can read the series. Chronological by events, or in the order they were written.

from www.timdorsey.com :

Publication order: Florida Roadkill, Hammerhead Ranch Motel, Orange Crush, Triggerfish Twist, The Stingray Shuffle, Cadillac Beach

Story order: Triggerfish Twist, Florida Roadkill, Hammerhead Ranch Motel, The Stingray Shuffle, Orange Crush, Cadillac Beach

And coming out in feb 05 is Torpedo Juice.

I've got Xinie reading Florida Roadkill now too. Razz Or was it Orange Crush? One or the other.

I just got an email from Tim the other day! He mentioned some greek restaraunt in one of his books near the Kennedy Space Center, and I was trying to remember the name of it.

He's also going on tour shortly :

I've actually finished Roadkill, Twist and Crush now. I didn't know there was an order, but it doesn't seem to matter much.

These are my favorite new travel books, as well, Denver. Dorsey and Pratchett make the most "I'm going to be interrrupted and it's okay" reading I've had in years.

I heart Sharon. I had a roomate just like her once and he was so f'd up, it was endearing.

My only problem with Dorsey is that the story order of the books is odd. I think that Triggerfish must have happened sometime in the middle of RoadKill. It was the only way I could rationalize things.

Tim Rattay was the Niners' starting quarterback last year. Ken Dorsey was his backup.

Coincidence? I think NOT!

He said that he killed off too many fun characters too early in the first books, so the later ones are prequels cause he liked the people too much to no longer write about them.

Biggest problem with them as prequels is that the characters don't meet till we are into Roadkill whish would make it hard for them to be shacked you in Triggerfish.

It doesn't really mater anyway because as any comic book fan knows a character is only die till they need him/ her for a story then they aren't dead any more.

The books are worth reading as long as you remember that consistency is not gonna happen.

I have read Tim Dorsey's entire collection and am anxiously awaiting his new book to come out in February. I do however have a dilemma :

I need to do keep reading and I don't know where to start, are there ant Dorsey fans who can refer me to some books of a simmilar genre that I might indulge?

Please and Thanks

Colin Bateman and Christopher Brookmyre are British authors (Northern Irish and Scottish respectively) with a similar style.

I just started reading Nature Girl (2006) as a result of an exchange with
BeeZee in the Still more Pictures of the Posters. Whee! thread. (BTW, that is a picture of Mr. Dorsey's Cadillac, that just happens to include him and aitapata in the composition.)

I'm thinking the genre aught to be 'gonzo Florida crime fiction with associated mayham'.
