I vote for Dweller too.

5 to 10 players seems like a decent size to me too. Not so small that it's just two people writing the whole thing, but not so big that it's all over the place either.

And I'm OK on not letting people join in the middle, unless they're replacing someone else (we may need a waiting list if too many posters are interested).

So what kind of world are we talking about? Fantastic, Sci-Fi, Alternate Reality? My vote goes to the latter.

I was hoping for some urban-techno-magic reality, some hyber-capatilistic-catostrophic dystopia or something. I would rather it not be some traditional fantasy setting or something lacking in technology beyond the crossbow *grin*.

i can go for noveau stuff, and i'd love to contriute, but is there a time issue? I'm still in between houses and will be internetless for at least a week at christmas...

But it'd be good to stretch out my creative muscles.

I think, as long as you're fairly regular the rest of the time, missing one or two letters is no big deal.

Yeah, and we'll have to make accommodations around the holidays as I'll be 'netless between Xmas and NewYears.

Before and after would work best for me, but I'm cool with whatever the majority want. I'll have internet access at home, but I'll be busy (ie, intoxicated) pretty much between the 2nd and 4th (when I come back).

As for the setting, I don't mind, but I'd prefer something not too heavy on the science/technology department, as I'm totally ignorant of it (and whenever I read science fiction, the science part leaves my brain just as it enters it). If we're talking science fiction as in Dune or Star Wars (ie, not much, if at all), perfect. Something like stupid cyberpunk like shadowrun is good too, but everything more than that might be daunting (I couldn't finish neuromancer, after all -well, it also got boring). Although I could make a character that has an irrational hatred of technology... which would be funny Big Grin

Neuromancer boring? Shame on you! Wink

You wouldn't need to deal with the Tech bits anyway, even if we use a fairly heavily tech setting (I'm thinking futuristic Victorian a la Diamond Age, with tech and magic), you could just write the entries about non-tech subjects: cities, people, flora and fauna, events, geography, whatever. The game is not limited to one side, it is meant to be a fairly comprehensive overview of the world we choose to explore.

Yeah, if one wanted, all they could write about would be the political intrigue and various ways politicians (or are they monarchs?) try to one up and knock off one another. Or someone could be the Joan Rivers of the time, traipsing around the red carpet events and giving breadth and depth to the social scene. Or someone could be ... it's endless...

Yeah, that's what I realise,d I can make my character a scholar of something non-technical, after all, and even though I might not know about a subject reading other's deifnitions of stuff might still inspire me.

That's part of the fun of it, interacting with and referencing and being inspired by others.

Keep it up people, this is firing the creative juices for the main idea.

I like that, JP: monarchs. But I think we need to keep it open enough that people can make their own entries on Rufus IV, King of Poplovia, or Rufus Bubbo, Jr., President of the Poplovian Republic, or Rufus, Emir of the Theocracy of Poplovia, as they see fit.

In other words, we should have a very, very general and vague idea of the world we're going to describe, and then fill in all the details entry by entry. And if somebody wants to write about presidents but someone else went ahead and made Rufus a king, they can make up another country which is a republic.

Are we agreeing on a retro-futuristic earth-like world? Or am I merely being overenthusiastic about my idea?

Hold on. GM ringing in here. I will give you a world idea that you can people with all the monarchs you want, but it will all be contained within one world, albeit one with a concept broad enough and with a lack of detail that means that if you can't fit it in, it probably doesn't belong.

Currently, I'm rolling the word "Teslacorps" around in my mouth and drooling slightly.

I am imagining you'll be describing a world and giving some rough outlines for basic concepts like geography, population, etc -I know we're making stuff up, but I think there has to be some frame to it, like, there can/can't be 100 continents, the opposite sides of thbhe planet are extreme opposites/on eis unpopulated/it is a flat planet but there's people underneath walking upside down...
(Although I was thinking of limititng a bit more to maybe one continent instea dof a whole world, coz then it becomes too massive... but, thinking again, there's nowhere that says a planet cannot be tiny or surprisingly homogenous...)

Do you want to hear the rough draft for my idea, based on what I'm hearing? (Not just asking clover, but anyone else happening by)

Yes, I want to hear it, please!

And yes, don't get me wrong, I was thinking of just ONE world. What I meant with my Rufus thing was that we needn't have anything like "monarchs OR presidents" in the "rules" - that kind of thing can be defined by the players on an entry-by-entry and country-by-country basis, as long as we remain CONSISTENT.

Internal consistency will have to be very important, people. No contradicting or ignoring other's entries just because you don't like them. Read every entry before posting yours, that kind of thing.
