I've started on those written by Delano and Ennis. No regrets so far, and I plan to complete the ones done by Ennis.

Should I continue up 'til Ellis and Azzarello? Also, what tpbs should I read first/would anyone recommend? And regarding Original Sins, is there a tpb which picks up after it?

Inputs very much appreciated as I actually don't plan on spending that much money on completing the series that were published so far - unless of course, people reply in here and argue it's well worth my savings ^^;

If you haven't already read it, Dangerous Habits was a good storyline. I revisit it once in awhile.

I'm not ignoring you, I just can't help.

I read the occasional hellblazer, and have enjoyed all I have read.

FYI, there is no film involving John Constintine or anything hellblazer related. Just as there was no film with Catwomen as the main character.

when's spring due?.

thanks for the movie disclaimers Smaug Wink Big Grin

and well, just in case this thread's useful for someone else as well: My recommended readings so far are Original Sins and yes, yes, yes Dangerous Habits Cool Big Grin Finishing up the rest of Ennis' run on the series...personally...I wish I haven't shelled out that much cash for the others XD

The Devil's depiction in the series didn't appeal to me that much because I've grown to admire the way he's been told of in Sandman and the Lucifer spin-off series ^^; maybe if I read the series before Sandman XD

You know, I like a lot of the stuff that hasn't been reprinted (47-61) from Ennis's Hellblazer run. His supporting characters are always great.

Also Neil's "Hold Me" story, and then Dave McKean did the pencils on #40, which is pretty good as well. I think Grand Morrison and David Lloyd did a couple of issues.

Ya know, i'd always intended to write a Constantine/Batman crossover, and now i'm thinking Selina Kyle (the real, comic book one or the Batman Returns one) would make a good foil for Constantine. She'd steal some mystical gem, get in mystical trouble, find out about JC, there'd be some whirlwind romance/sex and tension... an ironic ending... it all works out (though Batman is more JC's equal)

yea... i keep wondering why nobody's done the Batman/Vertigo thing (unless they have). the tone of the darker Batman stuff perfectly matches the Vertigo style (c'mon, Tim Burton & Christopher Nolan directing Batman movies? that does that tell you?) and Batman's sorta JC's counterpart-- they're both 'normal' mortals who stand toe to toe with the most powerful beings in their universe due to wits, resourcefullness, and pure guts. Sure, Constantine's more ruthless then Batman... but Constantine dosen't have a zillion dollars and a tricked out secret lair, so its about equal.

ohhhhh! just realized how i could tie Catwoman to JC without being stupid about it-- remember Bast? she was one of the saddest minor characters in Sandman... so let's say Bast contacts her most fervant worshipper (Catwoman, duh) somehow, and asks for her help, somehow... and Kyle just happens to know JC somehow, so she talks to him... it fits perfectly.
now i just need to write it (i always wondered why Catwoman wasn't mentioned in the first Batman montage. probably 'cause at that point Sandman was divorced from the DCU... but its odd to read about how nobody really cares about cats anymore if you're a DC fan...)

*big bump*

I just finished reading Red Sepulchre and really enjoyed it. I love Constantine as a character but sometimes I get a bit frustrated with the writers doing the title. For instance, I've read a couple Ennis has done (Tainted Love and Son of Man -- liked the first, not so much the second) and Freezes Over (Azarello, I think -- pretty good but not great). Maybe this goes without saying, but I dig Constantine the most when Neil's writing him (a couple of Sandman issues, Books of Magic, Hold Me Hellblazer issue -- am I missing any?). Neil seems to bring out a side to the character of humanity and angst that others avoid. I know John Constantine's supposed to be an arsehole, but I liked the way Neil wrote him -- something of a God-why-do-I-love-this-bastarding-scoundrelish-arsehole?-type slant.

Carey's take on Constantine feels the closest to Neil's thus far, so maybe I'll have to check out some more of his run.

I must admit that I have only starting reading Constantine during the Carey run, around issue 190 on up..I think its up to 218 now. Oh, and I have issues 62 and 63. I think its very good. I just wish I could afford the earliar issues. The last issue I read, I think issue 213..was very good. The first con JC ever played.
