So... how do people feel about the way this ended?
As much as I was rooting for Cap the whole time because Iron Man was being a dick... in the end, he was right. They weren't fighting villains, they weren't fighting to save the world, they were just fighting, which is exactly what the initiative was trying to prevent. That, and I really want to see Frank Castle running around pretending to be Captain America ****************************************** Me in Rock: This Shirt Is Pants | Mr. Fusion Me in blog: izenmania |

Read issue 7 over the weekend.
Hmmmmm. I agree with you, Snazz. I was rooting for Cap but I think his realization at the end matched him. Overall, I thought the storyline was good, but the last couple of issues lost a lot of momentum for me. I'm not sure why. I give Marvel props because it seems like this is something that will resonate for a while in the Marvel Universe (unless they hit the reset button), but I'm not quite sure how yet. I don't think I'll be buying the new Initiation series...but who knows? Maybe I'll thumb through the trade. ____________________________________________________________________ "Patriotism is defined as the last resort of a scoundrel. It felt like they rushed the end. They went "Oh crap, the last issues's supposed to be one big battle from start to finish and we still have to get spider-man on their side andexplainhowtheygettotheprisonand..."

Once again, Marvel screws up a a good story. The bill was inevitable, but I was expecting to see the death of a major super hero, possibly Captain America.
[rant of fury] What really pissed me off was the delays. A decade ago (when I was trying to get my own comic publishing company off the ground) Marvel and DC schmoozed the distributors and made it harder for the little guy to get his books advertised and distributed. Now Marvel can't even deliver on it's own series! But it's okay to demand the small publishers have multiple issues finished and ready to go before they're allowed to do business. |

Yeah, it felt rushed and the delays pissed me off, too. One more reason for me to wait for the trade. Which sucks for my local comic book store guys.
They could've drawn this story out and done a lot more with it. It might've helped if there had been a major character who died (Goliath? Who?) but Captain America would've been too much. And whoever they killed would've probably come back to life a few months down the line. ____________________________________________________________________ "Patriotism is defined as the last resort of a scoundrel. I was okay with Bill Foster being the guy to die off. He's had a part in Avengers and Fantastic Four, he's one of the first minority characters to get his own comic and he's notable enough that a Marvel fan(atic) will be upset by his passing, but not so notable that he'll need be resurrected in a month.
That and the whole "buried in forty funeral plots" thing really hammered home the gravity of his death. Unfortunately, it happened about two issues too soon. Captain America was basically running on "they killed Bill Foster!" fumes for three whole issues. I did love that the Civil War writers showed how an actual Cap vs. Punisher fight would go down. __________ AJGraeme "You see, I have a policy about honesty and ass-kicking: if you ask for it, I have to let you have it." -Taylor Mali "I am a sexy, shoeless god of war." -Belkar |

I liked the fact that Marvel admitted (via Cap) that The Punisher was crazy. There's a Punisher graphic novel written by Garth Ennis and drawn by Richard Corben (really big chunker jaws on all the men) called The End, and it plays out a 'what if?' story involving the Punisher and World War III. Needless to say, the Punisher stays the Punisher until the very end.

Yeah, I really never liked The Punisher. I get the whole vengeance angle, and I know that I disliked him while playing NARC on my Nintendo, but he was just . . . creepy.

If anything bad happens Marvel will just say someone was dreaming or it's an alternate timeline that doesn't count.

I haven't followed a DC mega-series since the original Crisis on Infinite Earths. The best part of the Crisis was the aftershock in Swamp Thing #50, when good and evil had to redefine themselves.

Holy crap. Cap is gonna get killed?
I hate this shit. You know he's not really going to be killed -- not for long. But somebody getting taken out by a sniper seems pretty permanent and to then resurrect him (which they will, because it's Cap -- hell, they resurrected Hawkeye) helps destroy any sort of realism Marvel is trying to build. ____________________________________________________________________ "Patriotism is defined as the last resort of a scoundrel.
