i dunno if its 'art', but its powerful in some way.... i know its not as signficant as many people say it, but stuff is in there

and you're a Final Fantasy fan, right? the games traffic in the same currency, sometimes-- a mixture of mytholgies, terms like 'Sephiroth' approcriated inapproriately (except that Evangelion actually does contain both visual and conceptual representations of the Sefir Yitzrah, at least as i understand it), glowing things....

Remember Calvin's critique of the neighborhood snowmen? (Great critique of art in general, btw) "Provoking a reaction isn't the same as saying something significant." Flinging gore and weirdness at your audience isn't the same thing as telling a story.

So it was weird. Takes more than that to impress me. It's sort of hard to get your hands on, but if you can, try reading the Marquis de Sade's 120 Days of Sodom. It's got everything, coprophilia, profanation, bloody stuff with pregnant women, etc. I'll leave the details to your imagination. After a while it's cloying. Yeah yeah, what else ya got? That's it? Well, ok then.

In FF, the erratic myths are just background, it's about people.
