It's "Me Talk Real Pretty One Day," but that just makes the name prettier.

Terry Pratchett and crime-caper novelist Carl Hiassen tie to win the "short but zappy" category, IMO:

Equal Rites (Pratchett)
Soul Music (Pratchett)
The Fifth Elephant (Pratchett)

Sick Puppy (Hiassen)
Native Tongue (Hiassen)
Skinny Dip (Hiassen)

All good books Zoneseek. The only one I've read that I didn't like was Fortress of Solitude. I think you'll really dig Lethem's style. And he's always got good titles.

Titles I like:
Everybody Smokes in Hell (John Ridley, never read it, and can't say for sure why not with a title like that)
Get Shorty (Elmore Leonard)
American Tabloid (James Ellroy)
Heaven's Prisoners (James Lee Burke)

Hmmmm, I guess I like crime/noir titles a lot. Lemme try some from other genres...

Lonesome Dove (Larry McMurtry)
Cowboy Feng's Space Bar and Grill (Steven Brust...good title, so-so book)
Fight Club (Chuck Palahniuk)
Werewolves in Their Youth (Michael Chabon)
The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe (CS Lewis)

Isn't it great ? I still prefer the Thursday Next series, but I had great fun reading this one. By the way, the sequel was released 2 weeks ago. It's called "The fourth bear".

Which reminds me that when I first saw the topic title, I immediatly wanted to post "The fifth elephant", but Chomiji bet me at it ! Smile

Picked up a book in England during one of my trips based solely on the title:

Dead Cat Bounce by Damien Owens

I'm also a fan of Tony Hawk's books:
Round Ireland with a Fridge
Playing the Moldovans at Tennis
One Hit Wonderland

And lastly, Are You Dave Gorman? and Dave Gorman's Googlewhack Adventure by Dave Gorman

At present I also prefer the Thursday Next series. But as this is based on one NCD book compared to the four Next books, I'll wait until I've read more NCD as they come out. "The Big Over Easy" was a good read. I liked that you could recognise that it was a sequel to the Next series being based on the Cavendish Heights story.
Was slightly disappointed with the ending to "Something Rotten".

I've just finished The Fourth Bear, I think it's even better than The Big Over Easy. Quite crazier. I'm becoming addicted to the Nursery Crime Division just like I already was to the Thursday Next series.

And to get back into the main topic, next opus of the Thursday Next series (out July 2007) will be called The War of the Words Big Grin
